Well, it really depends on what you mean.

If you mean absolutely objectively, who has the most military might, the answer is clearly the United States. They are by far the most powerful nation on earth.
However, being strong depends on a lot of factors, and although they might have a huge military advantage over any nation (or group) they might face, as we see in Iraq, that's not the end of the story.
To be strong, a nation needs a good foreign policy so that their standing in the world is also strong.

On the other hand, a nation can be strong even with a weaker military if they show conviction and ruthlessness the way that Russia has. Everyone knows they don't want to mess, because unlike the U.S. who has to answer to their people, the media, and the world, the Russians act against their enemies with a ruthlessness that is unparalleled by other nations with well-developed militaries.

Finally, there's the issue of regional superiority. And while the war in Lebanon this past summer definitely took the edge off, Israel enjoys a military superiority over a number of countries that lie in extremely close proximity that wish to destroy it. It is their military strength that does not allow this to happen.

The strongest nation must be the one that stood the test of time and overcome all the others. The answer is easy, China by far, they are the oldest nation still standing and fighting.

That would depend on what you are referring to.... The strongest Nation economically, Militarily or Socially? There are different things that make Nations powerful, The U.S.A. is among if not the strongest Nation when it comes to many different aspects, although some will argue we aren't.

Depends on what you consider strong. The USA, Russia, & China have the most advanced militaries.

However, put into a war of attition, the USA looses hands down. The American populous is currently showing its unwillingness to sustain prolonged warfare. Meanwhile, China is over populated.

Russia, although a developmental powerhouse, lacks the economic strength to fund a long duration war. But, the USA & ceratinly China can.

For the threat faced, Israel is probably the best prepared. They have stong allies & tons of experience. But lack resources & global reach. Luckily (?) their greatest threat is right next door.

Its easy to say the USA has the strongest military. However, there is more to it than just nukes & the F/A-22. You have to consider the political, economic, & countless other externals as well.

Pretsler, Have you considered the sheer size of China? That would probably take hundreds of nukes. Thus taking several vollies, & lots of time. Also, what makes you think China doesn't have the capability to see/intercept them inbound. They did have the press reported successful ASAT test. Lastly, my guess is China has a stockpile of nukes as well. It would be MAD.

We just need to pray that the Chinese and Indians allow us to continue to live comfortably. I wouldn't count on it though, we've screwed them over pretty badly in the past.
