There are some answers here that saying that sir lanka is a Muslim country.. This is absolutely wrong. There are Muslims and Hindus and Christians but there is no conflict with Muslims like in other western countries...people in sri lanka live peacefully and friendly with everyone.. Buddhist even worship Hindu gods in Hindu kovils.. so this country is good advice to other western countries which makes and have religious and race conflicts

Majority of the people are Buddhists. Rest include Christians, Hindus and Muslims.

Well our country is a third world country. And yea we are poor compared to the so called rich and developed countries.

But not all of us live in shacks and one block houses as one poster said. And millions spend on Buddhist statues? You got a problem with that?

Sorry to hear that you only have negative things to say about Sri Lanka.

It is a predominantly Buddhist nation.

From Wikipedia:

"Sri Lanka is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation, with a fifth of the population following faiths other than Buddhism - notably Hinduism, Christianity and Islam."

Theravadin Buddhism ("old school" Buddhism) is the most widespread religion, practiced by most Sinhalese Sri Lankans (70% of the population).

The second largest group are Hindus, who are generally ethnic Tamils.

There are also Muslims and Christians; each of these groups make up less than 10% of the population.

As with most countries, there are a variety of religions.

If you are going to Sri Lanka i think you will find the people very friendly and hospitable.

Although there are different religions, they don't seem to be taken to the extreme.

Buddhism: I was married out there and had the dancing girls the elephant, the whole 9 yards. You cant drive down 1 of their busy roads without seeing a 40 foot Buddhist statue with a picket fence round it. The locals all live in shacks and 1 room block houses, yet millions are spent on the upkeep of the statues and temples. All in the name of religion. Mick
