I think it's possible, but so is having Apophis (the asteroid that came dangerously close in 2004) crashing into us. We could be wiped out in thousands of years by the big rip, or tomorrow, and I don't think we should dwell on it. I mean, I think it's kind of interesting how the next perfect solar storm is predicted to happen in 2012, but I really don't see the point in constantly thinking about something that we have no control over.

No man knows the hour of the coming of the Son of Man, not even the angels of heaven know. He will come as a thief in the night at a time you know not. Many will predict and prophesy false prophecies concerning His return in order to lead many astray. "Heaven's Gate" cult ring a bell? Do not believe everything you hear. Just because someone has degrees in theology or any ology for that matter does not make him wise.

The 2012 prophecy isn't asserting the international will end in simple terms that a sparkling cycle will start up. The Mayan calendar has distinctive cycles each lasting 1000's of years. i think of that 2012 stands out as the commencing up of the 5th or 6th cycle. This has no longer something to do with Christianity because of the fact the Mayans had their very own faith. i'm no genius with the Mayan faith yet i think of each cycle is to acquire a stunning present which will replace mankind continuously from certainly one of their many gods. If it fairly is real it fairly is wise to me that the Mayans don't think the international will end a minimum of till each physique of their gods has given mankind a present. If we are in ordinary terms on the 5th cycle which skill we've 8 extra cycles to bypass till all of the 13 greater international gods have given their present. this implies in accordance to the Mayans (as long as my assumption is right) the international won't end for an exceedingly very long term. As for Christian perception, the bible says that we are going to no longer know the day nor the hour of Christ's return. this implies it ought to be the next day, it ought to be in one thousand years, and it ought to via some accident be in 2012. whilst Christ returns you will realize it and in ordinary terms after his return can the international come to an end. in accordance to the Christian faith the earliest that the international ought to in a feeling end is seven years from this element. Seven years because of the fact the tribulation era is seven years long.

2012 is small potatoes.

Now 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, January 19, 2038 - that's the key. 32 bit Unix clocks will all go negative. Civilization will collapse. We will be reduced to hunter-gatherers. There will be no more silly questions on R&S, no Y!A, no Internet.

Or not.

No man knows when the end is, only the father knows.
Matthew 24:36 -  “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father."

there is no prophecy. If you had been paying attention, you would know that in their calendar system the baktun ends and a new one starts. While significant to them for various reasons, the calendar does not end and no prophecy was made.

I know you probably don't care to hear this, but....

The Maya had a circular concept of time. December 22nd, 2012 is the FIRST day on that calendar.....

Do you think the world's going to end when your day planner runs out? Seriously.

No but N.A.S.A. thinks the earth will end in 2026 by an asteroid they are currently tracking.
