I am getting a truck from my parents for my 18th birthday, and I don't want to pollute at all, so what can I do to make my truck run as clean as possible with putting out very very little or better yet, no pollutants at all?

Happy Birthday! Wonderful goal. Learn how and convert the truck to run on hydrogen before you drive it one mile. Then learn how to make your own hydrogen or find the cheapest source in your area. Learning what to do is not easy but the conversion is not too difficult, it's not too expensive, but it is worth it. In the mean time walk, ride a bike, use the bus, just do not use fossil fuels. Listed a couple links to help you get started.

Hydrogen burned in a regular old gas engine emits water vapor and hot air.....by the way the air is cleaner than when it entered the engine.

You have a very complxex problem, pollutants are things that make smog, Modern post 1971 trucks have Catalytic Converters, and air pumps which convert pollutants into "Harmless" CO2 which is Greenhouse Gas. In fact the old polluting vehicles had better gas mileage and so produced much less CO2 and so were much more Global Warming Friendly.
Its is Pollution vs Global warming.
Buy a Motorcycle, ideally an Indian Built Royal Enfield, probably the most efficient Freeway Legal model available if you must have personal freeway transport, or get a Diesel if you must have a Truck.
Bio Diesel is a con, it is made from crops which shoud feed the starving, you drive Black people in Zimbabwe die.
To be real environmentally friendly get an electric truck and make sure you only use Nuclear or Hydro electricity,

If the truck is already chosen, basically all you can do is limit the amount of driving you do, and don't drive it hard. In other words, don't accelerate too fast, coast before you brake, and don't decelerate too fast. This will maximize your fuel efficiency and emissions.

If you have the option, you could get a diesel truck and run it on biodiesel. Or if you have the option not to get a truck, you could get a hybrid.

The most environmentally friendly truck according to Yahoo Autos is the Mazda B2300, followed closely by the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma:

Or you could sell the truck and instead buy a fuel efficient car!

1. Park it.

2. I suppose you could convert it to bio-fuel. Your truck will smell a little bit like French Fries and you may end up going to McDonalds or Burger King to fill up, but Willie Nelson and his gang swear by it.

3. Keep track of your emissions and pay them back so you remain zero carbon emissions. this is harder than it sounds, which is why big Corporations want to buy credits from small companies rather than convert their factories right away.

4. Convert your car to propane. It isn't zero pollutants, but it is better than gasoline.

5. Did you ever watch the Flintstones? First you knock out the floor of the truck, then you really toughen up your feet and work on those calf muscles, no, wait, I have to keep reminding myself < Cartoon Fantasy - Real World - Cartoon Fantasy - Real World > There, now I feel better.

Anything in the hybrid realm would require you to fill up your truck bed with batteries, which is way too expensive and there is always the disposal of the batteries to consider when they are gone. I think that barring a miracle in modern science, you are going to do what the res of us do:

A. Drive when you have to, combine trips and make the most out of every mile you have to drive

B. Do what you can to renew the environment in your spare time. Plant trees, pick up waste, recycle, compost, reuse everything that you can, and find homes for everything that you can't use personally, support alternate energy legislation and initiatives (we contribute to our electric company's wind power drive even though they've only had two generators up for the last ten years or so) Support candidates who support green, and buy energy efficient products (some of them are marked with that coll looking shooting star)

C. Talk about it just like you are doing now. Make jokes about it, laugh about it, share success stories, anything to keep it in the public spotlight and in the forefront of the average person's mind. You are already doing something, so congratulations! Can you do more? Sure, we all can! Don't work out of guilt however. Guilt is easy to shed. Work out of joy. Joy lasts a lifetime.

(One of the stupid little things we do is to buy a live tree every Christmas. After the holidays are over, that tree gets planted. Sometimes we put it in our yard, sometimes in a friend's yard, sometimes we donate it to an organization that looks like it needs a tree in it's area (shelters, Adult day case centers etc.) but every Christmas, one more tree gets brought into the world. How much of a difference would it make if a thousand trees got planted the same way, instead of mulched or burned up?)

One of the best, and easiest things you can do is get a new air intake kit. "According to the U.S. Government, replacing a clogged air filter can significantly improve gas mileage." I recommend K&N. You can also wait to see if the Flex-Box Smart Kit will be available for your truck. It lets you run your vehicle on any blend of gas and ethanol. Also, tire pressure is very highly underrated. Keep your tires at its recommended level. Many auto parts stores sell fuel injector cleaners or complete fuel system cleaners which let the engine work more efficiently. If nothing else, at least run premium gasoline, having a higher octane rating makes the fuel burn cleaner.

make sure you keep it maintenenced on time and your tires are properly inflated. That will keep it as efficient as possible. Or if you are bold enough - eating meat pollutes more than cars - so you can go veg to make up for driving a truck...maybe?

Just get the smallest truck that will do what you need, not a big one to make you feel like a big man. Or, if it meets your needs, a small car instead.

If everyone just did simple things like that, we'd be a lot better off. We don't need to stop living to fight global warming.

You can get the most expensive type of gas...I don't remember what it is called...gold/premeume/98?...I think...All I do know is that it runs REALLY clean and it should for the price of it
