sweat and salt. Your feet sweat and when you're sleeping your face does too. Also some hair products have ingredients that are actually pretty tasty to a dog.

He likes to get ur scent. Or the feeling that u r still there. My friends dog does the SAME thing!!! HE is very old and is a big dog breed! I think it is what most old dogs do. Expeccially if they have been to other homes before yours. Most dogs like the smell of stinky stuff...Feet, trash, ect. Thats why they like them. Almost everytime i see a dog and someone takes of there shoes or socks the dog goes right over to smell them, and sometimes lick!!

Also, dogs don't have taste buds, so if they like the smell they lick!

It could be more common if u sweat alot or play sports that make u sweat!! They like the body salt!

It sounds a bit obsessive compulsive to me too.

I saw an episode of "It's me or the dog" on TV where the lady on the show trained the dog to stop the behavior.

When the dog starts licking, she claps her hands loudly and quickly and says "Enough!" (short and sharp) and turns around to walk away. When the dog doesn't follow her the first time, she walks closer and did that again, the dog starts to follow. She said even though it's OC, the dog also is continuing the behavior cuz it gets him attention. So if you distract him with a loud noise and walks away, he will want your attention and follow you instead. Of course immediately praise and treat the dog when he turns and follow you.

Your dog may be trying to get his scent on you and your pillow - or has an obsessive/compulsive disorder. When my one dog licks himself excessively, it is usually because he is ichy. (My dog has allergies.) But he also licks the dog bed; floor; my legs and arms; and the other dogs and it usally is a sign he is anxious or maybe senses anxiety in me or the other dogs. You may want to take your dog to your vet and have the vet rule out any physical disease. Good luck!

Your dog is showing submission. The behavior that your dog is displaying indicates that it respects your position as alpha. If you don't like the dog doing it, I don't, just reach down and push the dog's head away and say "leave it".

He probably likes the taste..Perhaps your feet smell? :) J/k
Try using a different kind of soap or lotion on your feet and see how your dog reacts to it.
