It is highly likely that the person will be deployed on a ship or submarine if he volunteered for sub duty. It is highly unlikely the person would be deployed as a ground force.

As likely as any other member of the U.S. Armed Forces. Navy ships deploy on a fairly regular schedule, including all of the Nuclear powered ones. That fact has nothing to do with their deployment schedule. Navy ships usually are in port for about 3 months for refitting, resupplying, and crew replacement then they deploy for 6 to 9 months. On the deployment, they may put in at foreign ports so it isn't all time underway at sea. Why do you need to be reassured? Are you in or joining the Navy? Or is your bf in or joining?

In the Navy, it's the battle groups and ships that get deployed, so the question is, "what are your chances of being assigned to a ship that will get deployed?" Carriers and nuclear subs both have HIGH likelihood of deployability.
Ask your recruiter or manning folks about getting assigned to a major land-based facility, like Newport News (for example) where they handle the servicing of nuclear equipment, do maintenance and preventive maintenance, process spent rods, etc.
Also, if you're female, then no worries about subs, since women still aren't "allowed" to serves as Riders.

If they are on a ship and part of a battle group they are going when that battle group deploys. If they are not part of a battle group then more then likely not. All they have to do is ask their chain of command!! It really depends on the ship, where it's located, etc.

*** READ THIS ONE ***
I'm stationed at fort Riley Kansas. We ( The US ARMY ) is now training NAVY and Air Force personnel who have no combat skills what so ever to deploy. They are called "Transition teams" Right now we have nothing but Power operators from the air force . these men and women hardly know how to shoot. There going through a 60 day crash course in combat training. our last class was nothing but NAVY. so I'm sorry to tell you, but joining the military during war time no matter what your job is, you are going to deploy. so the answer to your Question is YES...see you in Kansas very soon.

Very. That title has nothing to do with weapons, only propulsion. He will be going to a ship (including sub) guaranteed.
