If you continue to treat the mother cat regularly (monthly for regular Frontline, 6-weekly for Frontline Plus) you should be OK - although as a precaution I would spray the house too. You need to treat the environment if fleas have actually been present.

If you do end up with a flea problem after the kittens are born, Frontline Spray is safe to use on kittens from 2 days of age.

EDIT: Frontline cannot harm unborn kittens, since it does not enter the body systems. It stays on the skin only. Can't say the same for all flea treatments.

Yes. It doesn`t matter how clean your house is, fleas and their eggs live in carpets, furnishings etc. Have a word with your vet once the kittens are born. There is a frontline spray available on prescription from vets that is safe to use on kittens from 2 days old. It is around £18.00 for a 100ml bottle and will be more than enough for a litter of kittens as they will only need a couple of squirts each (vet will calculate dosage by weights).

I had a really bad experience with this. First off i hope you didn't give the frontline while she was pregnant it can be very bad for the unborn kittens, also make sure you don't treat her while she is still nursing. The kittens can get fleas but since the mother is treated its unlikely unless you have untreated animals living in the same house. If they happen to get fleas you need to so something about it RIGHT AWAY. We lost a litter of kittens over this. Its not something to mess with. We didn't know what to do so a week later we called the vet and they told us to wash the kittens in dawn dish soap (because other medications are to strong for kittens bodies to handle and you could kill them) We did the dawn dish soap and got rid of most of them, we then brought the mother and the kittens to the vet and ended up having to put all the kittens to sleep it was awful. They become anemic. Once this happens the mother will not pay attention to them and you need to start bottle feeding them. Just be very careful. If you find one flea wash the kittens in Dawn dish soap.

If they get fleas, use dish soap baths. This is the only safe way to kill fleas on kittens that are under 8 weeks old. Younger kittens can die from fleas quite quickly. Use a flea comb on the head and eye area. Then, give a second dish soap bath in a week or two for the newly hatched fleas, or if you see any "flea dirt" or any fleas. You can also flea comb the bodies in between the baths.

I was under the impression that we're not supposed to use flea/tick medicine on our cats while they're pregnant. I could be mistaken though. I don't think that treating your pregnant cat is going to keep the kittens from getting fleas after they're born. Once they are of age (ask your vet about what age) then you can treat them with Frontline when you treat your cat.

If the kittens are born with fleas, you can use the frontline spray on them from two days old, was what I did as suggested by my vet. You can tell if they have fleas by looking at their back paws for flea dust, it looks like dirt, but isn't...be careful to handle them using gloves if you have to de flea them so that mum's smell is not rubbed off.

Yes the kittens can get fleas. They may not get them from the mother but if any are in the carpet they will.

And I would ask the vet about your de-flea the mom. The kittens can absorb the medicine through her milk and that is NOT good.

Or even call the toll-free number on the box/website and ask them.
