I understand it's good for you but I am not sure why. My doctor has recommended it to me as I have a wheat allergy.

Porridge like oatmeal? Oats are very nutritious. They have a lot of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and some protein.

Celiac sprue, wheat allergy, and wheat intolerance make it difficult to eat a balanced diet. We get B vitamins mostly from grains, and wheat is the primary grain of the American diet.

Don't look to corn as a substitute. It's really a vegetable, not a grain.

Maybe you can eat rye or spelt; maybe not. Very few people are allergic to oats, though.

And there must be a lot of nutrition in oats, given that the winner of the Kentucky Derby is almost always a horse....

Oats do not contain the properties that causes the allergens that wheat does They are better for your digestive system and they work as an equilibrium to your nervous system. When you cook them add a pinch of salt to bring out the flavour, add brown sugar and a drop of cream- delicious! Google Oats and see what other help and recipes come up- you will be amazed.

Very good for you and keeps your blood sugar stable, also you wont be hungry till lunchtime unlike wheat based cereals, add mixed seeds ie sunflower, flax and pumpkin and a teaspoon of honey and milk, delicious

oats are very good for the nervous system.the remedy avena sativa is made from oats,its used for stress.
if you buy raw oats,then cook them with water to make porridge all the goodness is in the pot.

It has the advantage of being a slow energy release food and fat free
