Nakamichi Dragon... ah a trip down memory lane, i still remmeber the button layout vividly, from staring into the audio shop window... ah but then i remember that price tag too...
they were extremely good stuff. still are.. they have shifted thier efforts to making some excellent car audio second only to Machintosh in my opinion. In fact many luxury cars are now utilizing Nakamichi as thier audio supplier. Lexus being one of the big ones.

Nakamichi also made a highly-rated audio CD player, one of which I still own and use. In the '90s, the company I worked for was bought by Nakamichi, so I got a good deal.

Back in the 1980's Nakamichi was the high end provider for audio equipment.
Personally, they could never mass market as well as the other Japanese, Korean and now Chinese manufacturers.

Second the above - I had a Dragon in the 80s. It was absolutely the best. The only thing which was able to compete with it was Tandberg 2020.
Not they are in Lifestyle market segment - dominated by B&O and Bose. Their equipment is mediocre these days, and overpriced - just like that whole market segment.
They also make a decent car audio for one of the upscale cars - Lexus I think.
Nakamichi is now owned by Sansui - another name form the past. I think the actual owner is a Chinese company - dont remember the name.... That explains why their design looks a bit like Sharper Image Fisher stuff....
Check out www.nakamichi.com
PS Names bring a lot of memories.... 80s was lots of fun! I even had a 8-track in my 1971 Chevy SS!

I can remember that Nakamichi used to be the premier manufacturer of high-end cassette recorders. I distinctly remember always wanting a Dragon model.
