Info:

Had my upper left wisdom tooth removed 430 Tuesday, right now it's almost 3:00 Thursday.
-first day I had some pain but it subsided with advil, wasn't told not to use a straw so i went ahead and did so but i was still biting on the gauze when i was sucking through the straw
-now today i ate a sandwich and immediately after i had some throbbing pain and jaw pain, also my gum and extraction site feel a little swelled as if they are touching my cheek
-i also experienced some blood in my saliva this morning. is this normal still?
-other than the straw incident i followed all instructions and have been rinsing with warm saltwater as often as i can even after eating.
-could this be dry socket or is it still normal to have this throbbing pain after less than 48 hours?

It may indeed be Dry Socket. I really expect pain from an extraction to lessen over time. But it is a tough time to make that call. I have always been told that pain is at its worst on day 2. But Dry Socket is characterized by an INTENSE pain that begins 3-4 days after an extraction. The pain radiates out rather than being localized. There is a very bad odour or taste within the mouth and if you look at the gums they are a yellowish-grey color. It is easily fixed by seeing your dentist.
Yes it is normal to experience some light bleeding days after an extraction. Even following the dentists instructions completely does not mean you can not develop Dry Socket.
I would take some painkillers and see how it is later. If it is bad tomorrow....Day3....for sure I would suspect Dry Socket and go and see my dentist.

I had my Wisdom pulled on Friday, went boating and after about 6 hours I started feeling tired , felt like I had the flu, ached all over, no pain. I went back to my Dentist Monday and the wind had formed a dry socket, he failed to tell me not to get wind in my mouth. The Dentist took some it looked like gauze with some kind of medicine, packed the place my tooth had been. I had to go back everyday to have packing taken out and new packing put back in for about 5 days. I felt fine after that , but I'll tell you can feel like you have no energy just like a bad case of flu.
You may some kind of a infection because I had no pain with my dry socket or any type blood or anything other than like the flu aching all over..

I smoked 5 minutes upon getting my understanding the teeth pulled. I in no way have been given dry socket. Dry socket is uncommon. it rather is like side outcomes published on drugs. you oftentimes have not got any significant ones. it rather is in basic terms a hazard.

It is very possible that you have a dry socket, especially because you were drinking out of a straw that same day. All you have to do is go back to the dentist and theywill put "dry socket paste" in the hole and that will help it feel much better and help it heal! Good luck!

It's very possible that it's a dry socket. I followed the instructions completely when I had mine cut out and still ended up with a dry socket. If I were you, I would call and let them know so that they can do something for you.
