I tried asking part of this in another question but I guess I didn't explain it very well. My parents never want to do anything fun. They usually don't let me go out with new friends until they've met the parents, and they never make time for that. They say if I want to go somewhere with a friend, they can drive me. But they never have time for that. Even tennis class, which was only once a week, was hard to make them take me, and that was my only activity for a while. I asked them to let another parent drop me home, but they said they don't know the parents, and whenever I said after a class, "Look, there's one. Go meet her," they said "Not right now."

Hon: You need to have a serious talk with your parents. They are missing some of the most important things in your life. As you mature and become more independent, they should WANT to be a part of that. Talk to them about being more involved in the things you are doing. Remind them that they raised you right, to make good decisions and that they will soon regret, standing on the sidelines. Life is too short, and High School should be the best part of it. Getting a car, will allow you more independence only if they let you use it, and by the sounds of it, you had better get to work on them now. Good luck and have a great sophomore year!

I don't know that it will get better, honey, unless you have $$ to buy your own car. Just because my daughter had her license didn't mean I was going to let her drive my car.

My son, 14, was bound and determined to accept a job accross town. I made it clear I wasn't driving. He researched and found that by taking a bus, a light rail, and another bus, he could get there on his own. Likewise, he's figured out which bus goes by his school, so he can get there early or stay late and still get himself home.

I'm proud of him, I'm sure you can tell. Talk to your parents. See if there's a way to work this out.

Your parents sound so selfish. It seems they don't care if you have any friends or activities. Maybe you should say, "Dee's mom is coming over to meet you tonight at 8. She's really nice." They may try to weasel out, but don't let them! If they say to cancel, tell them "OK, bu tomorrow will be OK?" They sound like the type that will give you a quick lying Yes. When they want to know if you canceled, tell them no one answered. If they want the ph#, give a fake. These people seem to think their child-rearing is over! Email if you like.
