the only street sign in an octagon shape is a stop sign. maybe you could print out a lot of street signs from the internet and use them as decorations. also, you could play green light red light with the kids. the game octopus would be fun too. make some stop sign tattoos on the computer. have really bright colors. kids could get whistles to make-believe they're crossing-guards. these are only a few ideas. good luck!

cut the cake in an octagon shape. make the invitations octagon shaped, maybe a bi fold so there is a stop sign on the outside and when you open it it says... son wants you to "stop" by for a birthday party...
make a cardstock stop sign minus the letters. make letters and have kids play - stick the letters on the stop sign, instead of pin the tail on the donkey
make place settings or favors for the kids.... use the same font as a stop sign and make their names on the mini stop signs. then let the kids decorate them
make cookies and cut them out in octagon shapes for the kids to decorate, use a rolling cookie like sugar or gingerbread
if you can't find a cookie cutter use a piece of cardboard cut in the shape and cut around it. they won't be perfect but close.

Oh that is just to cute! Kids choose the crazies things!
This is the best match I could come up with for "octagon" shapes! Here is the link: http://www.celebrateexpress.com/celebration/product.asp?N=4294967232+4294967247+4294967240&TabID=4294967232&SKU=28388&pageID=1&iRec=11&vw=asthumb&Ns=sort69
Some other cute ideas would be to just do a red and white themed party- go the the party store and get red plates, white table cloths, balloons and streamers. For the invitation, you could cut out an octagon from red construction paper. Cut out white letters to spell out "STOP!" on one side, and on the other side put something cute like "Everything you are doing and come to -your son's name-'s party!" and follow that with all the where and when info! That would be adorable!!! :)
Best of luck, hope this helps you!! :)

This will be great fun for the kids! I love it when children find joy in creative, unique aspects of life that we may not always pay attention to. Octagon Birthday Party, here we come! :)
-Cake: Get a yummy, large cookie cake and ask them at the bakery to cut the rounded shape with a knife so that it's an octagon. Ice with red and white "STOP" in large letters, then smaller (for the amusement of the parents) being 2...Happy 3rd Birthday!"
-Decorations: Head to a teacher/educational supply store (in person if you have it, or online) and get a classroom set of street signs. They typically come with Stop, Yield, Do Not Enter, a speed limit one, and maybe one other (can't think of it off the top of my head). Post these around. For a party tablecloth, buy a paper white tablecloth and go to a craft store for an octagon, triangle, square shape stamp, etc. You can get the inexpensive foam stamps. Use tempera paints with your son (you can get siblings or your own adult friends to help), and stamp "signs" on the cloth...red octagons, yellow triangles, etc. Get primary colored plain balloons and streamers, and you are set! :)
-Games: Head to your craft store and buy one of those big tubs of foam stickers in multi-shapes. You can let the kids make doorknockers that say "STOP" (with the help of parents, of course, since they are 3), or simply make a paper with shape outlines on it and give each child a copy to "match" their stickers to the shapes on the page. This is great for 3's! You can also play "Red Light, Green Light" with these little ones but make sure to say "Red Light: STOP" and "Green Light: GO" and "Yellow Light: SLOW DOWN" for them. Have parents help play with them, and it's a great movement opportunity so that energetic 3's don't get too fidgety! :)
Have fun at the party...I promise one day you will look back and giggle and smile at how unique your child's interests were at the tender age of 2! :) Who needs another Barney or Teletubbies party, anyway?? Boooo-riiiing! :D

For about $10 you can go to Lowe's and get a GIANT piece of insultaion (i think it's styrofoam in the middle) that cuts easily w/ a box cutter. Cut out your shapes and use stencil letters and spray paint to create your street signs...the whole project is about $20 and would come out adorable! And, it's so light, you could hang on the walls w/ double sided velcro for his bedroom decor after the party.

How fun! Maybe you could have a street sign themed party. Send out invites in the shape of stop signs and have each child bring their favorite car or truck. You could play "red light, green light", have a car wash, and decorate in street signs.

decorate your house with homemade street signs. for the cake, have one made. any bakery can probably make one shaped like an octagon to look like a stop sign. put streamers up everywhere and attach little signs that you can make from cardboard or construction paper. buy bags of construction workers (sort of like the little cowboys and Indians sets that come in the clear plastic bags) and put them in goody-bags along with candy, play dough, etc. email me for more ideas! i have a ton!!!

Obviously you can make a stop sign birthday cake. You can find songs that have to do with shapes. For a party activity you can hold a green sign for go and red octogon for stop and make the children minni ones. once you hold the green up they do they the same and walk in a circle and when u hold up the red one the do to and stop.
