A hypocrite pretends to be what he isn't. The word derives from the late Latin hypocrisis and Greek hupokrisis both meaning play-acting or pretence. Today, hypocrisy is the act of pretending to have beliefs, virtues and feelings that one does not truly possess.

Do you mean a hypocrite? That's someone who condemns someone for doing something they do themselves.
For example, John complains that Mary drives too fast and breaks the law by speeding. But John himself has so many speeding tickets that there's a warrant out for his arrest!
John is a hypocrite, because he is condemning the same behavior he commits. But it's not enough to merely condemn the behavior, a real hypocrite also ignores his own transgressions. For example, if John said, "I know I'm really bad for speeding, but Mary shouldn't speed either", most people wouldn't consider that to be an act of hypocrisy. But if he says, "Look at Mary speed! She's a menace to society! She should be locked up and never allowed to drive when she gets out!", that would be a pretty blatant act of hypocrisy, especially if he acts like his own transgressions shouldn't be punished.

A hypocrit says one thing and does the opposite. It's like saying your Christian and then comitting a sin.
