Well, I can only go by what I know and it hurts like hell. At least, it did for me.
I have a color tattoo of GIR(the robot from Invader Zim) on the out facing side of my right foot about mid way but slightly closer to the back.
I also have 2 cat paws (one pink, one blue) on my inner left foot, one right on the ankle bone (not my most intelligent decision) that was quite unpleasant.
However, although really bad, it was tolerable. If either tattoos were any larger though, my husband probably would have got kicked in the face or something because I was quickly approaching the point where I'd had enough.
I would advise you to expect something really bad, then be relieved when it isn't as bad as you thought. Rather than going in thinking it's going to be a walk in the park, then being shocked with WTF type pain.
If it's your first foot tattoo, or first tattoo in general, you might want to keep it small. Also, if your tattoo artist is a close friend or relative, see if they might do a small 'dry run' on you which would allow you to get a feel for what it actually feels like without putting ink into your skin. But this will cost the artist a needle, which is why I think someone closer to you would be more willing to do this.
Just a thought :-)
Good Luck to you!

I have a tattoo in the same exact place. I have three tattoos. It was one of the more sensitive places. I'd say it's more annoying than painful. It took about 45 minutes. There's a lot of detail and color. On a scale of 1-10 I would say it's a 6-7. It's an uncomfortable feeling. The skin on your foot is thin and boney so it was pretty sensitive. But overall I'm happy with it. It was totally worth it and I'm proud of it. It really depends on how big the piece is and how you handle pain. It's not a unbearable pain. Don't let the fear of pain stop you. Hope I could help! Good luck!

i have a tattoo on the inside of my foot, right under my ankle bone. It honestly did not hurt as bad as I thought it was going to. It was my first tattoo so I had no clue what to expect. After a while though it started to actually feel semi-good. Maybe it was the endorphins that started to kick in to cope with the pain.
The short of it is, it did not hurt as much as I thought it would. I think it all depends on your pain tolerance.

My exhusband is a tattoo artist, he's tattooed the feet of both my cousin and my best friend. They both said it hurt like hell. One healed well, one did not. Everybody is different and feet are kind of tricky. The important thing is being able to keep the tattoo uncovered. You obviously don't need to get a tattoo on your foot unless you can wear flip flops or other sandals until it's completely healed.

i have foot tattoos and they have so far been the most painful tattoos i have ever had. i don's know what you mean by the side of your foot, are you talking about behind your ankle in the indented part? i don't have that tattooed yet but i have actually been thinking about getting it done. but feet in general hurt.

As always this depends on your pain tolerance. Yes, does hurt in a way. The skin is rougher and thicker than the rest of the body. Hurt no more than some of the others.

i just got one on the top of my foot it was not really bad. just the circle part of it hurt. but it was not that bad. also you can't go off what a guys tells you for the back part of your foot. because that is actual turn on rub spot for a guy so no wonder they like it there.

Soak your ft in coldcold water with ice cubes it is going to consider like its painful but if its performed it feels first-rate than positioned a few lotion to your ft and positioned socks on than get a foot therapeutic massage!
