Mine was this past Tuesday. My husband (to get it off the counter, because it was so bulky) put our Rubbermaid plastic cake storage container in the oven (had my son's leftover b'day cake in it). He told me this Monday night, but I forgot. Tuesday afternoon, I preheat the oven to 450 degrees, go to use the bathroom, then come back a few mins later with grey smoke pouring into my kitchen. :( You should have seen my poor oven... Then, to top it off, I was slicing onions for au gratin potatoes later that afternoon and took a chunk out of my pinky finger with my chef's knife. Can anything else go wrong??

My wife bought these covers that go on the stove burners when not in use. They're made of metal, with flowers painted on them. One Saturday, when she was out, I went to boil a hot dog for lunch. I stacked all the covers on one burner, and put the pot on to boil. Then I left the room, to take my clothes out of the washer. But I had turned on the wrong burner. Instead of turning on the pot, I turned on the one underneath all the burner covers. They started to smoke and the paint blistered. It set the smoke alarm off, and by the time I got there, all four of them were fused together AND to the burner itself. Thinking quickly, I put on oven mitts, yanked them off, and ran them under the cold tap. The cloud of steam was blinding, and the paint started popping off like popcorn, making a mess all over the floor. In the end, all four covers were ruined, and the electric burner had paint fused on it permanently :) And what's worse, a new burner was $30 at Home Depot. It also took 3 days to get the burnt paint smell out of the kitchen. I'll never live that one down.

That would be about 3 weeks ago... my granddaughter had been playing with my plastic bowls, spatulas, etc.... She loves to pretend cook.... So after she left, I picked everything up, and began making a cake for a co-workers birthday... about an hour into the process, I realized I could smell burnt rubber.... thought maybe it was my mixer that was burning out, so I unplugged it and sniffed it... seemd to be working ok.. then it dawned on me.... I opened the oven.. and found one of my plastic mixing bowls melting through the grates of the oven rack.... Turned the oven off, pulled the rack out and threw it in the shower.... all totaled, took me 2 hrs to clean the oven, and you can still smell the faint aroma of Rubbermaid Flambe' in my kitchen...

I bought the co-worker a lovely chocolate ganache cake on my way to work the next day...

I left a kitchen cloth too close to the stove and the entire thing caught on fire! that was scccaary..

I also left fried fish for three days on my grill..thankfully my mom cleaned it up.ewww...

Does arguments count? the kitchen in my house is the room for all heated discussions, haha.

Another bad thing that happened years ago was when my older brother was as tall as the kitchen counter,he was shoved into the edge of the counter. The edge of the counter was not curved,it was pointed,so it cut him really badly, there was blood and panic and..ee...we had to go to the hospital. He's 22 now and still has the scar from it.Terrible stuff..

I went on a work trip for 6 weeks and left a half-chicken in a Pyrex bowl inside the microwave.
It stayed there for another 3 weeks after I got back because I didn't use the microwave.
Scary, scary stuff. I thought I would rather die than clean it up but I couldn't afford a new microwave so I just put Vicks Vapo Rub around my nose and mouth, closed my eyes, and got it done.

I HAD SEVERAL THINGS HAPPEN IN MY KITCHEN BUT THE ONE I WILL NEVER FORGET IS NEW YEARS DAY A FEW YEARS BACK WAS HAVING FAMILY OVER FOR A TRADITIONAL SOUTHERN NEW YEAR MEAL, HAM, CABBAGE, CORNBREAD AND OF COURSE BLACKEYED PEAS. WELL I HAD COOKED A LARGE POT OF BLACKEYE PEAS AND I MOVE THE POT TO CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE COUNTER, YOU GUEST IT , SPLAT BLACKEYEDS EVERYWHERE OVER THE KITCHEN FLOOR THAT HADN'T BEEN MOP YET. MY GUEST WHERE ABOUT TO ARRIVE I WAS FRANTIC. MY YOUNGER SISTER HAD CAME EARLY TO HELP ME, SO WE DECIDED WE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO MAKE A NEW POT OF PEAS SO INSTEAD WE SWEEP THEM UP, PUT THEM IN A STRAINER AND RINSE THEM OFF AS BEST AS WE COULD. SHE PROMISE AND I PROMISE I WOULD NEVER TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE PEAS. DURING DINNER EVERYONE SAID HOW MUCH THEY ENJOYED THE MEAL ESPECIALLY THE DELICIOUS AND VERY FLAVORABLE BLACKEYED PEAS, ME AND MY SISTER JUST SMILED AND WINK AT EACH OTHER, AND I DID PUT SOME PEAS ON MY PLATE BUT I NEVER ATE ANY OF THEM. ha!ha! sometimes it better if people don't know the truth.

i made coffee in a plastic based perculator.i left it on top of the stove, and turned the ring on next to it,in order to fry eggs.i left the room for a few minutes and came back to find the perculator base had melted all over the stove!. i had switched the wrong ring on for the frying pan!. it took me a week to scrape the mess off,and my housemates laughed the whole time!

Oh wow -- I can't think of anything next to the poor guys 8+ weeks of the microwave chicken. Everything else that I have done is absolutely paled compared to that poor guy.

Some pop tarts caught fire in my toaster oven so I just grabbed it and stuck it under the faucet without unplugging it first!! I could have electrocuted myself!!
