no disrespect but this is my observation that they are always in a hurry and are stern, never seen one laughing of joking in public, perhaps they do it in private.

You left out Christian evangelists. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are related. All three trace their roots to Abraham.
The conservative faithful of all three religions are fearful and ignorant; a combination that often manifests itself in violent sociopathic behavior. They all worship a brutally judgmental and humanity-hating God that punishes, tortures, and kills believers and non-believers alike.
If you were one of them, would you be smiling?

You are generalising, these Imams, Preists. Jew leaders, Orthodex etc are like this cuz they want to look like this, they have learnt to be like this, its their way of life, its natural , something they get used to, but thats on the outside world where u ppl see them like this, but at home, socalising, family etc they are just normal ppl, God's people, they have responsiblities aswell which some ppl dont, like to show example oif their authority, the genuine ones are the ones who to u look stern etc cuz they fear God, they teach, they research a lot, do thier work/job accoridinly, its their way of life basically, the more u be into something the more u grow into that something, so by these Orthodox looks which u claim to see on these Orthodox ppl are because they have been involved in whatver they do for a long time, they take their work , preaching etc serously, then again lot of normal ppl can look all sorts aswell, u just tink just cuz they look like this & their occupation u naturally assume there must be sumfin strange about it when there aint, also spome have beards, their clothing etc, so b open minded cuz this is not a big deal thing, there are always ways, reasons to why ppl look and act the way they do & its the obxious reasons, u must be really behind in these things man, chill. lol, PEACE".

You haven't seen enough of them then! They are as varied as any other group, some are stern, some are serious, some are light hearted, some are happy, some are sad.
Try walking through an Orthodox neighborhood where people just stand around and mingle etc and you will see the entire range of behaviours, the same as any other group.

Yes , perhaps they do it in private . But they're not all the same . As "Samantha" said , former president of Iran looks gentle n always smiling . That's why stern looking ones dislike him . I know many of them who are jolly n friendly .

Being Jewish and Orthodox, I must tell you that not all of us are stern looking and serious.
As for the ones who are, it is simply a state of mind. We take life seriously, what more can I say??:-)

I have seen hodjahs (Turkish mullahs) having a joke, infact Nesradin Hodjah is famous in Turkey for his humourous stories.
All religious clerics (Christian ones too) seem to have an aloof air at times, comes with the job, but they're still people.

Cos they have serious jobs. Cant be being frivolous and giggly with the souls of your flock on your hands can you.
But then so do priests an vicars and Ive seen them having a quick guffaw.

Wow! Way to sterotype! I can't speak for Muslims, but I grew up in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood and went to an Orthodox temple for a while and there was plenty of singing, dancing and joy. Just because they don't smile at you, doesn't mean they don't smile.

its the beards. many of them have long beards and most people psychologically equate beards with sternness and seriousness, even though how much body hair you have does not have any effect on your personality..
