If there is not a JROTC unit at your high school, then search the internet for the nearest Sea Cadet, Young Marine, Devil Pups, or Civil Air Patrol unit. I don't know a lot about the other programs but the Sea Cadets are modeled exactly like the Navy. They use the same uniforms, rank, terminology, etc. I actually vounteer for the local Sea Cadet units and they are pretty good as far as preparing someone for Naval service.

Try www.cap.gov Civil Air Patrol is the only program actually fully affiliated with the military (they are an Auxilliary of the USAF). Been around since 1941 and have squadrons in most major cities. they offer membership for kids from 12 to 18 as well as adults. They teach the kids Aerospace Education, offer emergency services. Good thing about it, is if the kids reach a certian level (Mitchell Award) they can enlist in the Air Force as an E-3. When I went through AF basic 20 years ago, we also got an accelerated basic, 3 weeks instead of six. That rocked.

There is the Sea Scouts which is a Boy Scouts program modeled after the Navy. I don't know of any other military based programs, but that does not mean they don't exist.

I do believe some MP units have explorer posts. A friend of mine used to be an AF MP Explorer...or so he says. Just check around. I'm sure you'll find something.
