I would like a colour that is warm and light so that it is a nice place to be in, especially in winter. The living room is open plan with the kitchen next to it. I plan to put down Ikea laminate floor in the living room which is light coloured (birch stave effect.) The kitchen cupboards are oak (dark-coloured) and the walls of the kitchen and hallway are beige. The kitchen table and chairs are a light-coloured wood with green legs. (Looks better than they sound.) I am thinking of buying a light green sofa. So I guess it all has to match. I am thinking a yellow or ochre but it could all go horribly wrong. I may play safe and go with beige.... What do you think?

Chose a pale neutral tone these go with any colour.. like if you go for yellow get a very pale one ( hint of yellow ) light stone colours work well.. for more depth to the room pick a small wall and paint it with the colour that is most prominent on the room and make a feature of it....

Don't be afraid of color. You can do so many things with what you've described. Light wood floors are great and a light green sofa could be beautiful.

Yellow can go both ways and it all depends on what you want from the room. A more lemony yellow can be very modern. While a buttery yellow or mustered yellow are more classic.

Another beautiful option I can see for your space is a beautiful airly blue. It would be LOVELY with your floors and sofa. (See pictures)

Some colors I recommend:
(all Sherwin Williams colors, can be found online and matched to any brand)
Lucent Yellow (SW 6400)
Convivial Yellow (SW 6393)
Humble Gold (SW 6379)
Meader Blue (SW 6484)
Jetstream (SW 6492)

Personally I prefer white walls. You can change your colours schemes whenever you like without worrying as to whether they will go into the rooms. If you have white you can have all lovely colours....cushions and curtains to match. It can look warm and lovely depending on your accessories. Red and browns look warm....greens and blue peaceful and restful. Yellow is nice in the summer but a but off in the winter. Beige is Ok but a little dull. If you have a kitchen table with green legs you could have a very pale green wall on one side of the room. It will look fresh and lovely all the year round. I personally love blues and tuquoises but its yourchoice.

Hi!

Your house sounds lovely!!

I think you've got it dead right with the colours.

If it was me, I would choose a pale mustardy yellow, or a nice light ochre.

Don't forget, you can get your own colours mixed at B&Q etc., so you should be able to get it spot on.

Hope this helps!

Best of luck!

i think you need an accent colour. possibly the same green of the sofa. you could paint just the smallest wall in it, so the room doesn't look dark. or stick to natural walls, and get accessories, e.g: curtains, cushions and rug in the green. i think this will blend the two rooms together nicely. or stick to neutral and get some funky wall art in brighter colours. you could even buy blank canvases and do your own. add some clever lighting so it looks cosy in the evening. neutral and green will look fresh and inviting.

What about a warm yellow? That's lovely in winter and nice in summer. And with the type of funiture, it would go really well and look lovely. Go for it! Yellow can really warm up a room in winter. Our lounge is this colour and it's nice!
