Micro-organisms have dominion over us? meaning the smallest of organism can destroy us as humans in a matter of hours and days. We have been at war so to speak with new and ever evolving speicies of organisms. So how can anyone believe the bible when it says Man was given dominion over all creatures? when that is simply not true?

Something untrue in the bible? Glad I was sitting down when I read that.

Your facts are somewhat incorrect. Micro-Organisms do not have dominion over us. They attack us, and attempt to exert a measure of control; but they NEVER have dominion over us. American Heritage dictionary defines dominion as such - Control; sovereignty. The key to this definition is the word sovereignty. And sovereignty can be defined as such - Royal rank, authority, or power. As creatures created in Gods likeness we possess something micro-organisms do not - consciousness and free will. These very traits give us sovereignty over all other creatures of this planet. Micro-organisms may win a battle or two; but they would never have the ability to finish a campaign, as we, sometimes unfortunately, do.
May God bless you this day and all that follow.

In the Garden of Eden we had absolute "Dominion" over all creatures. When we left the garden God had to give us dietary restrictions, and guidance. You can see the chronological dietary evolution in the Bible and how our dominion has increased when we are in alignment with God, and constricts when we are not in alignment with God.

A huge part of this dominion is awareness. So, your simple awareness of the micro-organisms gives us power over apes, cats, dogs, and dolphins who are unaware of this threat. Since we are aware, we can learn how to protect ourselves, and eventually control these (taking back our dominion) to make a better life.

When we abide in Christ and receive His Word, then we also have dominion again over all creatures & all diseases. But it takes claiming Gods Word over sicknesses, disease, corruption, etc...

God gave man dominion in the beginning. Man was made in the image of God; body, soul & spirit. Man sinned & fell. Man died spiritually (denied tree of life) then physically within an age (1000 yrs). The serpent & death has ruled since we lost it at the fall of the 1st Adam. Through Christ, the last Adam, we have authority again, being born spiritually (born again) because we are made whole; body, soul & spirit. But our body is still corruptible & makes mistakes & dies. So? We look forward till resurrection day complete. Then we will say "Oh death, where is your sting!".

Hmmmm never thought of it that way but you are right. I mean we didn't even know how to combat some organisms till early in the 1900's.

That is a completely fair and legitimate point. Of course, as you can already see from some of the answers above me, religious people will just change their interpretations of scripture to mean something else.

God didn't know He had created those at the time.

EDIT: That was a mistake on my part of course.... God is omniscient.

The evil scientist Louis Pasteur invented micro-organisms and unleashed them on the world in the 19th century.

Except the germs. When all living things on earth begin to die off because of pollution and lack of oxygen, the last thing to go will be the insects and germs.

People believe that because of their own arrogance. Also, they honestly believe that biblical writings were handed down by God, when, in fact, they weren't. God was used as a selling point and something that can't be argued with.

the bible is only to be used literally if it is convenient for the cause- in all other uses its a metaphor

for example in the case of homosexual marriage, the bible is taken literally and thus used to condemn the homosexuals

in the case of childrearing, the mouthy child is dealt with in a non lethal manner (who would want to kill their own kid for god in this day and age?)
