Sounds like his idea of "free will" is really HIS will.---and this just for looking back?---Some "loving" god.

pissdownsatan---Are you trying to change the meaning of "free"?---Free means you don't have to pay for it.

sheffieldcrew---Some "choice", are you really blind to the fact that your god was forcing HIS will on to her.
Your fear has robbed you of your common sense.

near of DN---The laws of any civilized society don't even atempt to control every move a person makes.
If you make an illegal left turn, you may get a ticket, but it's highly unlikely that a judge will demand that you covered in concrete.
You have a strang sense of justice.
A slab of salt throughout eternity?? WOW.

Maria C---You sound like you regard yourself a reasonable person. Perhaps you might be able to look past your nose and see that it's likely that innocent children, babies, and retarded people probably lived in that place that he so callously "exploded".
And all because he was isecure about other gods being "worshipped" there.
We must learn to think with our brain and not our nervous system.

scruffycat--Yes I will, no doubt, make many mistakes in quoting from that childish book that I have about as much respect for as a Superman comic book.
You're living proof that you don't have to be intelligent to be educated, but it helps a great deal to be unintelligent in order to be a"believer".

Does it trouble you if you don't quote accurately from some comic book?
What diference does it make if it was Lot's wife or Minnie Mouse.
The point is, it was a cruel and childish way to punish someone, even for a very serious crime, and not just for looking back.
I can't believe an adult would try to defend this kind of B.S. behavior.

You say you know the author personally.
Perhaps you could decribe him to me.
How tall is he? Does his voice sound low or does he sound like a high tenor? Is he big and fat or slim? What kind of clothes does he wear, or since nobody ever really sees him, does he wear any?
Hope he's keeping up with the styles.
What language does he speak? Hope he's not still using all those "thees" and "Thous", and "goeth untos".
What color? Crew cutt, or shaved head?
Wearing speedos or "saggin"?
Do you consider yourself an honest person?
Did he have one of those pencil mustaches, or did he go smoothy.
Do you think you might be living in a make-believe world?

What do you think of a dad who stands by while a complete stranger sticks bent needles into his baby daughter's head?
Sick, no?
Well, there's more to this story... of MY dad, letting the doctor sew my bleeding head back together.... in the early 1960's...
And there is more to the story of MY Father, God, letting Lot's wife (NOT Abraham's wife-- as you say) suffer the consequences of her choices...
Try reading the whole book and not just commenting on incomplete fragments...
By the way... I was barely 5 years old, when I chose to disobey my Mom and NOT wear a seatbelt or sit flat on my bottom in the backseat of the station wagon... on the day that the consequences of my choices led to my flying off the seat... after Mom started the car from a stop.... my head hitting a sharp protrusion in the car, and putting a deep, wide, bloody gash on top my head.
**EDIT** I, too, have read and studied both books of the Bible. Gullible? No. I know the Author, personally. He helps me understand His book. Bet you can't say the same.
Oh, and btw, Mr. Straight-A Bible student, it wasn't Sarah who was turned into salt.

She had a choice--they were told to run to the mountains and don't stop or look back lest they be destroyed too. In other words, I'm letting only your family out of this whole town escape but pick up your skirts and skedaddle. Did they do that? No. Lot said, oh no please not the mountains. Can't we just go to this other town? It's closer. You see, it wasn't enough that their lives were being saved, they wanted to save a few steps. So, ok, go to the town and I'll make sure it's not destroyed--just don't stop and don't look back (it's gonna be that kind of explosion). What does she do? She turns and looks.
First of all, someone tells me they're gonna spare me from an explosion and to run to the mountains, I'm not gonna ask if I can stay closer. Second, they're not gonna have to tell me to make tracks, that's gonna be instinct. But hey, let's just blame everything on God right?

"Lusted for her old life"?
According to the tale she did a very human thing...she looked back at a place she had lived in and called home for probably most if not all her life. Presumably, everyone she knew was back there.
Your Biblegod acts more like a sadistic control freak than anything else.

God gives us all free will.
however, according to what you sow, you will reap.
in other words, you will pay for your choice one way or another.... either with God's blessings, or not.
still, He lets us choose.
i think that's fair. He died for us. He created the game & we benefit or win if we play by His rules, not ours.
