Im travelling to Southampton on EITHER the 14/15 September
or the 26/27 October.

I need the cheapest way possible, return from Manchester.

The best I have gotten is a coach from Manc to South for £37.80 return.
Can anyone beat this?

Many thanks, Ive been looking for ages.

The cheapest is megabus, but you will have to go via London and the connection isn't great. One example I found was:
14/9/07 - dep Man 11.00 - arr Lon 15.30 = £1.00
dep Lon 17.00 - arr Soton 19.25 = £4.00

15/9/07 - dep Soton 06.30 - arr Lon 09.20 = £6.50
dep Lon 10.45 - arr Manc 15.15 = £1.00

£12.50 plus the booking fee, now that's cheap.

Megabus don't sell through tickets, you buy two seperate tickets. Currently MAN - LON leaving at 11:00 on 14 Sept. and arriving in London at 15:30 is £1 !!! LON - SOU leaving London the same day at 17:00 is currently £4 Total cost to travel Manchester to Southampton is therefore £5 plus the 50p booking fee. Not bad? The ealrlier you book with Megabus the cheaper it is - book today if you want this price!

The price you have got there seems a very reasonable price that i dont think you will better. You may be able to get alift with someone but it is alot safer to travel by a secure coach .It is quite a long way to Southampton from Manchester so have a safe journey

Have you tried Megabus (www.megabus.com) or National Express (www.nationalexpress.co.uk)?

You will probably be able to get cheap Virgin trains but not sure if the cheapest fares will be available yet, worth having a look on the Virgin Trains website and contacting them if they do not show up when you search.

I travel often to Manchester (My home city) from the Isle of Wight...obviously via So'ton. It's unlikely you will beat that price...book it.
The Bus may be a little cheaper, but it's not as nice a ride as a bump-free train is it?

Are you eligable for any railcards that give you discounts, such as student or family railcards?
