My kitten wont stop eating my other cats food. He has his own dish away from my other cat but he keeps going to the other one and when that is gone he will go to his. I dont want to have to feed them at different times, how can I get this to stop???

You can feed them simultaneously but feed him somewhere he can't get out of - a closed room, for example. Is the problem simply that he's not getting kitten food, or that he's eating too much? You could also feed the other cat in an area that the kitten can't get to, and only give him enough that he'll consume at one time (which you should be doing anyways), that way the kitten won't have the access or ability to eat the other cat's food.

There is nothing special about 'kitten" food. The food may have 2-4% more meat protein than the regular food in that line. If you use a quality cat food (not Meow-Mix, Whiskas, Science Diet) the kitten and cat can eat the same food.

You might benefit from going to: http://littlebigcat.com and reading some of Dr. Jean Hovfe's articles on cat nutrition. Particularly the one, "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food" in order to have some guidelines in choosing a food for both the kitten and cat.

No need to bother with separate places or times for eating, etc.

Put the cat in one room to eat and the kitten in another room to eat. Shut the doors so they can eat in peace. We have a cat and a dog, and that's the way we do it. The cat eats in the kitchen and the dog's food is in the bathroom. They leave each other alone and I'm not buying 20 bags of cat food because the dog insists on eating it too. Good luck.

If you want the Kitten to have Kitten food and the others to have the adult food here is what I did

I put the adult food up high on the freezer the kitten could not jump up there
and to keep the adults away from the Kitten food I put her dish in a cubby where the door to get in a blocked all but a very small hole. so only the kitten could get in.

had the same problem with our 12 weeks old kitten, we found the only way to stop it is to feed her in a different place and keep her away from the adult food completely....

Kittens will grow out of this, but all you have to do is stand their when they are eating. When the kittne goes to eat the other cat food, pick him up and put him in front of his food bowl.

You could try "traing him not to" ... sort of like potty training, just difrent.

Or mabey you could just swithch their food bowls. Mabey, if you put his food in the bowl the other cats are curently eating out of he'll go to that.

Or, if they don't curently, feed them all the same type of food.

Hope this helps ...

What i would try is putting your cats food somewhere elevated where he/she likes, and where only he/she can get to. My friends mother serves her cat on top of the refridgerator ..sounds dumb, but the other cat cannot get up there

2 Awnsers. 1-You can feed them in different areas, for example, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom or bathroom. 2- You can feed them at seperate times.
