My daughter needs more physical exercise when sports are out, she has a hard time sleeping when she is not as active. It is very hot in the summer where we live so her time outdoors is limited. Does anyone know of good dance or exercise videos made for kids? I am not trying to make her loose weight or anything, she does not do a lot of TV/video games and does swim at her grandma's so I do not need the lecture, would just like a way of indoor exercise when the weather does not permit it outdoors.

She would actually love to learn routines, so I was hoping someone would have the names of some good ones, and my nephew just visited and brought his Wii, and they loved it, we just cannot afford that at this time.

We have "On Demand" on Comcast, and there are several videos that teach new dance moves, very fun! You should get her a ZUMBA video. It's super high energy, a cross between latin and hip hop, my daughter LOVES it! Look up Zumba on YouTube, there are several videos there you can look at to see what it's like. Enjoy!

You said she doesnt do video games, but have you thought about the Wii or a game called Dance Dance Revolution. There have already been some studies on the Wii and weight loss, plus Dance Dance Revolution even has a calorie counter to it. Getting the system and a game would be more $$ than a video, but something to think about.

One DVD I like is the New York City Ballet workout. Other ideas are ones where she might want to learn routines, like on PomPon or a dance team, especially if this is something she would want to try out for in te future. Theres also that fitness show on the Disney Channel, with the girl with the pink hair, forget the name.

There are also plug and play dance dance revolution games and other virtual games I know that target sells these for around $20-$40 depending on which one. Depending on her age there is also the Bella Dancerella line that has cheerleading, ballet, and pop dancing. The Bella Line is really best for kids under 6. Bratz makes a plug and play dance game and an air guitar too.

Honestly the tapes wouldn't be my first recommendation I wouls say check into your local Rec center, YMCA, Gymboree or Church group and sign her up for a program like that. Great movement for her but it won't get old as fast as tapes and there's the added bonus of socializing. Good luck!
