When everyone is against you, it forces you to rely on yourself. Besides that, G-d is on our side.
Realize that Jews are normal, but for the most part, they follow Scriptural principles, which then blesses us. ANYONE who follows Scripture will be blessed.
And; there are non-successful Jews!! We're normal, like everyone else.

As a Jew-by-choice, I can tell you what I've observed. As Lady Suri says, "Education is ingrained in our culture and religion."
As child grows up s/he is surrounded by family and friends reading, chanting, and memorizing prayers and Bible text. Eating is considered to be "holy" and is done as a family as often as possible, but always on Friday night and Saturday! Judaism is a family religion and a Jewish family's priority is always the study of Torah!
However, Jews study the Torah in Hebrew so children attend religious school several times a week and on Sunday mornings in order to learn Hebrew and to lead services in Hebrew (Bar Mitzvah).
By this time, Jewish children have learned "how to study" which many times children don't learn until college or university! In addition to that, they've learned at least a 2nd language, and in many cultures, they've learned a 3rd language.
Jewish holidays are always specifically commanded in the Torah so holidays also become a learning process. The ultimate learning holiday is the Passover Seder. The entire family comes together over a meal and reads the Exodus story throughout the night, using every sense as a teaching tool -- we "taste" the tears of those held captive in slavery for 400 years. We learn that we are not such a grand people -- we were slaves in a strange land. We learn about "freedom" first-hand from members of our community who have experienced persecution in foreign lands.
By contrast, in the early years of Christianity, the most profitable "occupation" was that of priest. The most learned and the most ambitious became priests which required celibacy. Jews have NEVER required celibacy, or even separation. As a matter of fact Jews are commanded to remain a part of the culture in which they live. The first Jewish commandment is to be fruitful and multiply.
So the answer to your question would be to make family and education your priority in life -- your job and recreation, etc. should be 2nd to these things.

There are two parts to your question: wealth and intelligence. There are also two different answers.
Wealth:
The reason so many of us are good businessmen is because we don't think it's sinful.
In many religions, the devout are supposed to remove themselves from earthly things. They fast, seclude themselves in monasteries, and take vows of poverty.
People raised in those societies, even if they themselves aren't religious, feel there is something wrong in being too successful. Just think about the terms we have for moneyed people: filthy rich, obscenely wealthy.
Judaism, on the other hand, believes that instead of withdrawing from the world, you should elevate it. For instance, eating bread isn't a noticeably spiritual act. But if you make the proper blessing and eat with the intention of being healthy in order to serve God, you have made the very act of eating holy.
So being rich is ok, as long as you use some of the money for charity.
As for smarts, it's part of our culture. We're very big on study. In order to be a good Jew, you have to know the law in all its details. Rabbis and scholars are held in the highest regard.
With a culture like this, Jews A) are pushed to succeed, B) respect smarts, and C) have a lot of practice in thinking because of all that study.

Personally speaking:
Most people would not consider me successful. As a teacher, my salary is not enviable. I think some people are born with business sense whether or not they are Jewish.
What I can say about my people, though, is that education is very important to us. Thus, most Jews have at least a BA, and many strive for an MA, an MBA, medical school, law school, etc.
In short, the secret here is education.

Not much I can add to Lady Suri and L'Chaim except to echo that education has always been paramount for us. It's not just learning the Bible, it's been learning and understanding the enormous body of Jewish law and thinking that's been produced over the centuries by debates among the rabbis. This body of learning followed specific rules for how to approach a problem (actually there were a number of schemes as to how to approach a problem). It has been an incredible method for producing people who can think analytically. Not the only way, for sure, but a virtually guaranteed way. This helps to sharpen one's thinking processes--it won't make you smarter (I don't think anything can) but it sure helps you use what you have.

Peter Griffin in "When you wish upon a Weinstein" wanted the same thing for Chris, so he was real close to getting his son converted until Lois found out and spoiled the whole thing.

It is simple. Why are the Jews so blessed? G-d blesses them because they are his people.
