Both of the other questions are correct. Every state has slightly different rules and methods for their roads and testing. You can pay special attention to road sign meanings (and in some places, shapes), distances for following other vehicles, turn signals, hand signals, changing lanes, and braking distances. Pay attention to those little things in the book that seem silly or that you're tempted to skim over. They have a strange way of popping up on the test. They may also ask you about what you are allowed to do with a learner's permit (like the rules about not driving after a certain time in the evening, or without an adult with driving experience. They vary per jurisdiction, so I can't really be specific on anything more.

Most of all, relax. Don't worry too much or you'll forget things, lol. The test is never as bad as you think it will be, and its understood that you testing for a LEARNER'S permit. That means you need to know enough not to get hurt while learning to drive properly, but the key word is 'learning'. You'll do well. Good luck on the test!

The best way to prepare for your permit test is to contact a local driving school in your State or City and ask them to send you some permit practice tests. Their practice questions are usually up-to-date with the current Motor Vehicle tests and most quality driving schools will send you these for free in hopes to get your business in the future.

Every state (which you didn't bother to mention) is going to be different. Here in Washington they ask a lot of questions about drinking and driving. Anything in the book is fair game. Good luck.

Make sure you know all the road signs. That was about half of the test when I took it. Other than that, familiarize yourself with the basics. When to signal, what lane to be in, headlights high v. low beams, yada yada.
