I'm currently 7 months pregnant--due on Labor day. Remember this.

When I was a senior in college, I had my son. I took a month off (doctor's orders) and finished the semester with 15 hours and a 4.0. The next semester I was an intern at a local Special Olympics and loved it. They loved me.

Now they have a job available, and I KNOW that I would be able to at least get an interview with them. I excelled at this internship, and they often mentioned that their past interns did nothing but play around on the computer while I really made differences in their fundraising. It was said I brought the largest sponsors to the table in the 4 years my supervisor had been there.

That being said, I'm 7 months pregnant. Right now I'm doing fine--the hypertension they said I had has gone away without medication and there's no diabetes. I do, however, look 7 months pregnant.

The question is this: do I have a shot?

In other words, I want the honest truth: if you were in their shoes...

...would you hire me?

I know the ol' "well you never know until you try" bit, and the "the worst they can do is not hire you."

Honestly, I just want some outside opinions. I'm going to submit my resume, obviously, but what do you think my chances are. Yes, I know I'm asking you to go in blind and not know any other candidates.

And thanks all--according to the law, I'm not safe from discrimination until I (or any woman who is pregnant) is hired. Until then, the law really doesn't cover you.

Not hiring due to the fact that you are pregnant is called discrimination. By law each interviewee has to be treated equal regardless of age, nationality, physical appearance, etc... From personal experience, people do not follow all the rules. In the past I have been informed by my employers not to hire base on things such as pregnancy, hurricane relocation, etc... but I don't play well with others well.

If that job your applying for is something you want to "stick with" and stay for a long period of time I would wait until you've have your baby before you apply.
If its something you just want to try or need to do for a few months apply.

From what you wrote, it sounds like something you want to stick with, but like I said it's against the law to discriminate against you. Employer can always make up some "BS" excuse to why they didn't hire you, it'll be pretty difficult for you to actually prove they didn't hire you based on your pregnancy if that were the case. For more information though check with the Workforce Commission in your state.

To reiterate, I'd say wait until you've had your child.
Live not fair sometimes, most times.

I say go for it. If they like you and think YOU will do good for the company than they will hire you and it sounds like you already have the job! also my mom's friend was pregnant and she was 8 months and they hired her even though she had to have the baby soon. They valued her.
~Good luck!

Legal or not, companies don't like to hire pregnant women. if you are 7 months, it's going to be pretty obvious.

That being said, go ahead and apply. It sounds like they like you and you have a shot.

They can't legally discriminate against you based on your pregnancy. However, you should make it clear to them what your commitment to their organization will be and take your situation into account. Do not avoid the subject, it will be too obvious not to mention. Express your interest, your past experience, and what your plans are if you get the position.
