Feline AIDS cannot be spread to humans, and Human AIDS cannot be spread to cats. Different viruses.

FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) is spread from blood to blood or saliva to blood contact. It's rare for kittens to have it unless their mother was infected. It's most common amongst unneutered outdoor cats because they fight a lot - fighting is the most common way for the disease to spread.

Cats can still leave a fairly long time with this disease, especially if they contract it in later life. As with humans, the disease can be present for years before it starts to cause problems.

There is a vaccine that has been developed in the USA for FIV, but it's efficacy is not yet known.

Feline Leukaemia (FeLV) again cannot be spread to humans. There is an effective vaccine available for it - unlike with humans, feline leukaemia is caused by a virus, and it can therefore be vaccinated against.

EDIT: Soccer Mom is pathetic if she really thinks only gays get AIDS - what a surprise, she doesn't accept email. People who talk crap like this never do, they don't have the courage of their convictions.

I dont think Feline can get the Aids that is caused by the same pathogen in human. Simply because feline has a different immunity system and is beyound the work of Aids virs. However one can never be too sure, because all living things have DNA material and all living things evolve. May be one day or now certain kind of Aids virus family can cause Aids in Feline due to certain mutations?

yes they can, although it is not the exact AIDS that we get, it's from that same family. The virus devastates a cat's immune system, stopping it from effectively combating other diseases and infections. Infected cats eventually fall prey to a wide variety of secondary illnesses that overwhelmingly prove fatal. There is no cure, but cats can live for up to 10 years – much of it in seeming good health – before succumbing.

No, its a myth, a urban legend. They can get what is called feline leukimia, which some people mistakenly call aids or cat aids, but it really is not the same disease as what humans get, nor is it contagious to us.

EDIT:
Think about it people, how could a cat get HIV when HIV stands for HUMAN Immunodeficiency Virus.

No, felines and canines cannot get AIDS or HIV. There are other immune deficiencies that they can get, but not the human form.

BUT, catpat is partially incorrect in saying that HIV did not come from monkeys. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and SIV (Simian Immunodeficiency Virus) are related.

They don't get AIDS, but they can get FIV which is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Similar to HIV, but not the same. Humans can't get FIV and cats can't get HIV/AIDS.

i do not think so .cat/kittens can't get aids as far as i know it is a human decease not a animal decease. unless someone injected the animal with the blood of a person that has aids.if someone does that they are a monster.hope that helps alittle.

Yes it's true, but it's not the HIV (human immuno-deficiency virus) that people get. It is an immuno-deficiency virus that is specific to cats. And yes, it is very sad.
