In today's CHristian music, do you think we are sugar coating the truth sometimes? (im a little frustrated with today's Christian songs)

Also, while sharing The Truth with some non Christians and former Christians, do we ourselves sugar coat Christianity?

I mean I'm not saying we should force things down people's throat, cuz thats not what Jesus would want us to do and thats not what he did either when he was around

Buf if we earnestly and genuinely reach out to non Christians and former Christians and share the Truth and leave it at that, don't you think that's enough? It would just light a spark or bring some curiosity

If we just talk to them and pray and let God do his work in them, then I believe we have done our jobs and welcomed another person into our Christian family

Like most things, some of the modern Christian music I really like, some I do not. That being said, the more important thing is that the diversity of it can speak to & touch anyone...everyone.

As a Christian, who knows what it means on EVERY level to have Jesus Christ in my heart & life, as my father, brother, co-heir to Heaven, friend, defender, protector, provider, advisor, and Savior...I want everyone to have what I have.

Not everyone wants what I have in Jesus Christ.
That is CHOICE. And their God-given right to it.

But I have to remind myself, that I am only Almighty God & Jesus Christ's earthly representative...Their messenger. I can NOT change anyone. I can NOT save anyone from Hell. I can NOT get anyone into Heaven. Only Jesus Christ can do that.
ONLY Jesus Christ.

All Jesus Christ asks is that I live my life to glorify Him & to practice what He taught. I am only Jesus Christ's messenger.
As His messenger, I am to offer an introduction, and to deliver an invitation, but if the invitation is accepted, Jesus Christ takes the meeting...not Me.
ONLY Jesus Christ can redeem and save.
Not me...not any one...ONLY Jesus.

I think the problem is determining the truth. We all know that ultimately there is only one truth, but as of this moment in time we really don’t know what the ultimate truth is. That is where faith comes in.
The best witnessing is to live by example. Let other people see how you react and behave to things. If they like what they see they might try living the way they think you do. Which I am assuming is a good Christian life.
Remember, all of our prayers have already been answered. God gave each of us a mind. With that mind we can do anything. Any prayers to God now should be for thanking Him (or Her) for the things we have.

As to contemporary Christian music I would not know. I don’t listen to that sugar coated crap.

Music is a pretty broad subject. Some songs are meant to inspire, some to share biblical truths, some are just about life. Pick what you like. If we have the Holy Spirit, He gives us discernment as to what is right and wrong.

Some people sugar-coat their Christianity because they don't have any. But the scriture is clear that 'we are to give an answer to everyone who asks about the hope in us', but we are to do it 'in meekness and fear' and to 'speak the truth in love'. We must always be respectful and realize that it is the Holy Spirit's job to draw and bring conviction, not ours. I know some people who will debate you til you say 'the sinner's prayer' (which I don't see anywhere in scripture), then wonder why these people aren't in church.

Be a good example. Speak the truth in love. Do your job, not the Holy Spirit's job, and trust God for the rest.

Since I've only been a Christian since 2003, I really don't have a problem with the Christian music. It beats the heck out of what I used to listen to, and as long as I'm fellowshipping with other believers and growing in prayer and the Word, then it's not my main meat anyway. The Christian music does help me worship, but it's not the lyrics as much as the way my heart sings to Jesus; so it's my interpretation of the lyrics anyway.

I believe there is "sugar coated Christianity" as you put it. But it has its place as well. I was saved in a Church of God (at its roots) that was a very contemporary, seeker friendly, artsy, Willow Creek Church. They didn't put much time into getting saved, hell, satan, money, the gifts - any of the stuff that would freak out skeptics - except on Wednesday nights. There are lots of critics of this type of church, but hey, it worked on me. That was my milk. Now I'm into solid food. A friend likened that church to Christianity 101. True. But I know lots of strong believers who feel they have a calling to stay there. The mission of the church is to turn believers into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Sugar coated or not, that's good stuff. Jesus came to people as they needed to be spoken to (parables, etc.), and there's not much difference. Some people like hymns and tradition. I like the come as you are, clapping your hands and rockin out kind of church service. Whatever. Jesus rocks.

I enjoy today's Christian music . . . .but I enjoy a lot of music.

The best way to "reach out" to people is to live the life that you believe best represents the fact that you have Christ in it. You can talk all day long, but unless you have been led by the Holy Spirit you are going to go unheard. I believe we push more people away by screaming "God loves you" to everyone walking down the street. Although the heart and intent in the matter are good I think the response will not be positive.

People would rather watch than listen. . .actions speak the loudest.

Christian music is not always what it should be,
just like Christians are not always what they should be.

What you said last, made the most sense. We pray for God's plan to work in all things.

We don't try and take credit for bringing someone to the Lord, but thank God from the bottom of our hearts for seeing it done. Jesus was pretty upfront about most things. Jesus is here today, working as a mediator between God and ourselves. The devil whispers in God's ear, as he is the accuser. When there's fear or doubt in your heart, put it in Jesus' hands. Like a sheep, he will lead you where you are supposed to go.

God bless.

Yes sometimes things are sugar coated. as humans we naturally resort to pushing the positive end of things. But we can't have a negative outlook on God and life, rejoice!
As far as reaching out, sometimes the best thing to do is to light a spark of curiosity, I feel that with curiosity comes a hunger for knowlege. This way the person in question might find out more for themselves and grow in their faith more than if you just told them that they need to be a christian.

Hmm, you know, I was kinda thinking the same recently. But try and think positive; say you and a friend are listening to... Red, heard of them? You kind of have to listen closely to hear their Christian meaning. "Breathe your life into me" it says. Your friend says "Hmm, what does that mean, I wonder?" He shrugs, "I don't know, the song's pretty cool though." A perfect chance to tell of how we need a savior to "Breathe" his life into us! And from that typical conversation it sounds as though the friend wouldn't have been listening to it if it had been saying "God, I need you to breathe your life into me!"

But sometimes it would be nice, if at the end or something, it said something about what they've been talking about.

And, by the way, I'm a bible-believing Christian.

Depending upon how old you are, I'd say (if you're in high-school or younger) to try and join an AWANA program near you. I learn a lot and grow closer to God through the Bible Quizzing. And you know, sometimes the not-so-direct songs teach me lessons at the right times. So overall, I'm happy with the Christian music.

Hope that all made sense :)

Of course Christians "sugar coat" the "truth." Everyone sugar coats the truth when they're trying to sell something. One of the biggest problems Christians have in selling their ideas or beliefs is not sugar coating but being too wordy, as in your question. That really turns people off. Just give someone the facts, briefly, then shut the hell up. Blathering on and on just drives people away. Much like my answer here.

Most of todays so-called "christian" music is not... I do not "sugar coat" The Word... There are things of The Word that should not be shared with non-believers... that is for God to reveal... but I "tell it like it is" when asked... one honest question always receives one honest answer to the the best of my ability.
