Well it could be a few things...either you didn't leave the color in long enough or you didn't go up enough shades from your natural color. Also sometimes it takes a few times doing the color to get it where it needs to be which is probably a good thing.

If you have med to dark brown hair and you try to go really blonde on the first try without a pro then good luck. You'll probably get a orangy coppery color. I would try going in a 3 step process and yes I know it takes a while but the results are well worth it unless you want B Spears hair :(

Start out about 2-3 shades lighter and the next time go a few shades lighter than the last time and then on the 3rd time go for the final color. I would suggest waiting appx 3 weeks between each color

If your hair is dark and you are bleaching it blonde be thankful it hasn't done much. Dark hair lifts through different colors before becoming blonde. Go to a hair salon. If you can't afford that try a beauty school or go to salons like Regis, Trade Secret they do classes and need models. You'll get a free color.

You first hafta bleach the existing color out of your hair before you apply the blond dye.

So go to a beauty supply store and get some strong peroxide to bleach your hair out, then apply the blond color.

Your hair needs to be stripped of it's color before using the blonde hair color. There should be a three step process; lightening, toning and conditioning in the box of blonde haircolor. Look for the box that says, "Complete Kit"

Well it all depends on your natural shade.. Over the counter colors usually have about a 20 volume peroxide in them.. meaning they lighten about 2 shades.. If your hair is darker than a lvl 6, light brown then you will possible need to use a higher volume peroxide with a beauty supply color, or even use a booster in your color. It's hard to give advice when I don't know your hair color or the shade you are trying to achieve..

if your hair is naturally darker than the blonde you tried to dye it, then you have to strip your hair. (bleach it) you can do it at home with lemonjuice and sit in the sun, or with hydrogen peroxide, or get a bleaching kit. it'll dry out your hair intensely but you'll be able to put the blonde you want over top. i suggest getting a professional to do it, so it doesn't ruin your hair as much. but if you'relike me you're probably just going to turn to peroxide or something. but it might turn your hair orange if your hair is dark. so be careful! but good luck!

You really can't get more than two or three shads darker on your own. Even then, you'll need to make sure the product contains ammonia. Be careful. Anything that powerful can damage your hair. Or anything in your bathroom.
