I have very fair skin on my face, the rest of me tans easily in the sun or in the bed. So I want to bring my face up to the same color. The problem is that I cannot tan it, I have been breaking out horribly no matter what I use, and I have been scarring. I've religiously washed my face for the last three weeks morning and night and used less makeup. It doesn't seem to be working. I'm going to start using a toner and moisturizer or lotion soon though. My question is which moisturizer or lotion is the best for smoothing my skin, reducing scars, and is non-comedogenic and oil-free?? I'd also like to have one with a darker tint that will not wash off if I go swimming. I look ridiculous with a white face and tan body...

I didn't ask your opinion on my tanning, I know my limitations as I use to work in a salon and know the damages it can lead to. No one said a nice glow was unhealthy, it is actually good for the skin to get a little sun. My face is almost see through it's so white. I HAVE to wash my face because it is very very oily, and I know I need a moisturizer to put back what is lost when I wash it. I do not use a fragrance and all my makeup is made for my skin. So please, to the 50 year old who assumes she looks 30... look again.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT TANNING! I just want to add color to my face... that comes after healing the scars and preventing breakouts! How do I do that?! Are you all not reading? I'm not some brown cow, I just want to have some color. I have DARK hair and eyes!

From your description, it sounds like it may be hormonal. I've been through really bad bouts of hormonal breakouts myself, so I know they're no fun.

Don't do the tanning, then, then you'll have acne AND cancer.

I think you probably need to see a dermatologist. They may want you to take a low-grade antibiotic, which may clear it up, but you run the risk of becoming a walking yeast infection, not to mention building up a tolerance to antibiotics in general, which is no good. If your acne is very deep and cystic, they may want you to try Acutane, which is a very high dose of vitamin A. It has it's own risks and drawbacks (very drying, can't wear contacts for 6 mos.), but I have friends who've had great success with it.

Also, you can request a topical regimen. Mine put me on a combination of Retin-A mixed with a non-oily moisturizer at night, and in the day, the same moisturizer mixed with a Benzaclyn cream - I think it's like a peroxide; it kills germs and will bleach anything it comes into contact with.

So go see a derm...they'll give you your best options.

Oh, and switch to mineral makeup. ( I swear by Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals.)

Un-tan your body to match your face, or you're gonna look ridiculous with a wrinkled, cancerous body and a white face.

As for your face, use witch hazel as a toner, and anything with aloe in it to soothe your inflamed skin. Stop washing it so much, and limit the number of potions you put on your face to a simple, unfragranced soap that you use once a day when you remove makeup. Use toner and moisturizer after that, and give your whole body a break from all this unfair torture.

Good luck

I am also very fair and would break out which would cause scarring. I hated it. I eventually tried proactive (cleanser/toner/cream) and not trying to endorse a product or anything but it did work. I never break out anymore (4 years and counting) and I use normal make up to even out my skin tone and a light bronzer to give me a tan look to match the rest of my body. (I don't tan at all, so I use the daily tanning lotions on my arms and legs). I look sun-kissed and have an even skin tone.

You might think you look rediculous, but no-one around yo will think that.

If your body is already warning you with scars etc, then don't push your luck. Some people just don;'t tan, and the face is the most sensitive area, like by a factor of 10 compared to your arms and legs.

I'm bi and a girl with a white face and tanned arms and legs is like pure jailbait to me. Wow!

Or, take the simple way out and do a chemical tan on your face. Most good quality parlours can do that for 20 bucks or so. It'll last 10 days to 2 weeks and is credible.

But with all those tanned faces around, the top in me says go au naturel, white face, tanned body. Just thinking about it turns me on! You got red or fair hair probably. Your combination of skin and hair is rare. Mostly red heads and blonds don't tan so well without terminal skin damage.

But think! In a world where everyone who is "beautiful" has a tan, the one who is white is the focus of attention - it looks so "clean", "virginal", like a lady or a baby (we keep babies out of the sun for a very good reason.. their protection is low..like your face)

In Asia where I got a job for the mo, the women walk round under sun umbrellas and use whitening cream to keep their skin white. Nasty stuff, can give you cancer. They are born with (protective) coloured (yellow to brown to black) skin and try to keep it whiter to be "beautiful like western women"

You are their dream come true! Go beach with a sun umbrella, stretch out and watch the eyes...watching you because they're jealous!
