Mid-May is the best time to travel because it is just before peak season, and you don't have everything crowded with tourists. My husband and I love to travel the old fashioned way. On our honeymoon we left for the west coast. We drove through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington, and California. We did it in 2-weeks and spent around the amount you want to spend. That was including gas, food, hotel, sites and everything else. We traveled cheap and seen an abundance of things Including 4 national parks, many state parks, we walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, Lake Tahoe, we went though desserts, mountains and drove along some of the most well known scenic highways in the USA. It was worth it and we really got to know each other and spend some good quality time together. Tip: travel by car you get to see more and really appreicate the beauty. It is so much fun that we are going to the Southwest states for our 1 year in the same way we did it on our honeymoon. We will be able to see all 50 states in just a few short years by doing road trip traveling. It is spiritual, beautiful, relaxing, and if you guys are free spirits I definately recommend doing something to this effect. Anything is possible. God Bless and happy traveling!

I haven't been there (yet), but Bermuda is supposed to be nice, and it's not a long flight from your area. The system won't let me look for trips in 2008, but I found two hotels on the Pleasant Holidays website where you could stay for a week for $2400 (including flights).
Much of the Caribbean should be within your budgetary reach. I have been to the Bahamas and loved it. I live on the West Coast, though, so Caribbean vacations end up costing me a bunch. The Pleasant Holidays page listed several Nassau hotels that were also within your price range, including flights and a rental car.
My last two vacations were booked through Pleasant Holidays, and all has gone completely according to plan. I can definitely vouch for them as a reputable travel agency.

I live in the Baltimore metro area, and have a similar honeymoon budget. My fiancee and I are not "sit on the beach and sip cocktails" kind of people, so we are planning to go to Deep Creek Lake in the mountains of Western Maryland for a week. While they do have the traditional hotels, you can rent a house/cabin/condo there for as little as $500 for the week! We'll be waterskiing, hiking, swimming, jet skiing, rock climbing, and enjoying incedible scenery! There's also great restaurants for every budget in the area. Surrounding towns have quaint little shops with plenty more to do.
Hope this is helpful!

Me and my friends went to Cabo, Mexico last year for spring break. We spent around 1300 each for hotel (all-inclusive, even drinks) and round trip airfare from Boston. It was a wonderful vacation. One thing I recommend doing while your there, take a taxi to Lovers Beach. It costs about $40 to get to the beach and $10 for a boat taxi to the actual lovers beach. That is the place where the Rock Arc is and the Pacific window. On one side of the beach you are in the pacific ocean and the other side you are in the Sea of Cortez. We stayed in the El Presidente in San jose del Cabo. about 30 minutes outside Cabo San Lucas. Other then that trip we ended up staying at the resort most days lying in the sun.

That's plenty of money.
Take a cruise to the Bahamas or Mexico.
Dominican Republic has pristine beaches and is less expensive than Puerto Rico. Also is not a touristic trap and is not crowded at all. Five star beach side resorts start at $150 and it includes bk. Ther are also resorts with everthing included for little bit more.

Hey!! I had the same problem. We're going to Switzerland!! I found a vacation rental, you know where people rent out there places for about a week. Just google "vacation rentals" it will bring you up a ton of sites from all over the world. The apartment we're renting is about $1200 and the airline tickets were $1100!! That's all for a week in Switzerland!!!! Seriously, try it.

vegas, florida, california. it will probably be cheaper if you stay in the US. I think we're gonna go to key west for seven nights and our budget is 2800. you just have to watch the airfare and hotel rates. try bed and breakfast instead of fancy hotel, and fly to a nearby large city and rent a car to drive to where you are actually going instead of flying into a small airport, then you don't have to worry about cab fares either.

There are alot of places you can drive to, if you can't afford to fly. You can drive down to Va. Beach, Nagshead, Myrtle Beach and any of the beaches in Florida, like Sand Key Island.
