I think it is an insult for someone to assume you belive in such theorys.

I went to sunday school for 10 years and it has only sealed by beliefs that God is something man has made to explain the world around him.

It is insulting.

I think it is an insult NOT to accept a blessing since it is meant for your good regardless of where it came from. There is no ill intended and no harm done in saying that. No one is asking you to change your belief by them saying that. I guess it is just the same as you (or anyone) saying "may the force be with you". No one takes that as an insult...it is just a friendly way of wishing someone well.

the only way I could see taking it as an insult is if oyu believed in God but were angry at Him. If you really and truly did not believe He existed then why and how could it be insulting to you. It would be like someone telling me, may the smurfs bless you or whatever. I know beyond a shodow of a doubt that they do not exist so there is no way that would be insulting- to me it would just be a little silly and fast forgotten.
Hatred and pridefulness are hte sources of offense. How could oyu be offended over something you are so sure did not exist- unless oyu are just easily offended and intent on being a victim in every area of your life. You need to examine your heart and / or just get over it because the people that are saying it to you are not "out to get you" - out of the sincerity of their own beliefs they are only wishing the best for you- wether you believe it or not is entirely up to you but it is past silly to get offended and wounded over it- and if you are offended- it is your problem- something that is within your own being causing you stress, not them.

Well, in the 10 commandments, the curse goes to those who hate God. So? You will just inherit the curse. Since that is what you want. Personally I think you may have to learn the hard way that the blessing is better than the curse. And the curse destroys you.

God gave favor to those who desired His blessings, examples are Abraham & Jacob. God is the God of more than enouph with plenty left over.

The blessings overcome the curse. So? I sugest you look up blessing in the dictionary. Blessings are the good things in life. The curse is the things that destroy life, marriage, etc...

Also, I think that when someone says 'God bless you' to you, then the Holy Spirit convicts you of your unbelief. So? That is the root of your feelings problem. You unbelief. This is the sin the Holy Spirit convicts the World of. That they don't believe in Jesus, The Only Begotten Son of God.

And no matter how much you dont want to get convicted, I will pray the Holy Spirit continue in convicting your soul. And also, God bless you with Gods Truth. And, I won't curse you.

How do we define right and wrong on this one? It's not like science or mathematics that deals with facts and logic, religion is more of a belief. It's personal, which is why there are so many different religions around.

I personally wouldn't take it as an insult based on the words but how they say it.

I'm with you on the 2nd point, same thing happened to me, I was in catholic school :)

I'm not as much insulted by the fact that someone assumed something incorrectly. What I consider an insult is when someone *deliberately* says or does something to upset you. It's the intent that I focus on. If someone says "God bless you" to me, and they mean well and they mean it from the heart, then I take it as a well-meant faux pas. If they're saying it to be condescending because they know I'm atheist, THEN I'll take issue with it.

I don't think anyone says it with the intent to insult. And, really I think it is a shame that a phrase such as "God bless you" gets thrown around so easily for everything. . .makes it not mean very much, you know.

i dont take it as an insult and people dont mean it as an insult. you might not believe but if you really think about it, a lot of thing are a blessing from God, it just depends how much he gives them to you judging on your life and your relationship with Him. so a little "God Bless" wont do you any harm. God Bless !!

No, you are not wrong to be offended. But the question should be asked was the person saying this to you with the intention to offend? What they are trying to do is pray that "their god" blesses you and heals you. Regardless of your religious beliefs you must look at the spirit if the act. If they said god bless you during a debate on the existence of god, then by all means get upset and punch them in the forehead!!!

I think it a bit curmudgeonly that you, or anyone, would choose to take it as an insult...

Whether you believe in a God or not, - why would one even think about taking offense at a gesture that was clearly an indicator of someone else's goodwill toward another human being?

I mean, seriously,...
... do you really feel that someone who merely says "God bless you" to you is trying convert you?

Are you honestly wanting me to believe that someone who would say such a thing to me is 'trying to cram their religion down my throat!", - a phrase which many atheists seem happy to bleat whenever they feel they can justify it?

Why is it that the 'more human than human' atheists always seem to get their uber-intellectual panties in a wad at the mere mention of a deity?

I'm an agnostic with a very serious inclination toward atheism, and I can say with utmost assurance that, were I to decide to become a full-fledged atheist,...
...I would always welcome a "God bless you" from one of faith:
Not because I would seek to give them any credit for being a Christian but, rather,...
... because I would seek to give ANYONE, regardless of their theological views, - credit for taking a brief moment of out of their life to extend to me a thought of kindness...

It's not wrong per say and considering what you believe it would be honest, however, it is a case of majoring on the minors. When people say "God bless you", they are trying to be nice (unless they know you really well). If you always become offended when you know people have good intentions for you, they will begin to avoid you, despite your other stellar qualities.
