Anything online is usually a scam. Your best bet is a local community college or university. Usually they have course work for events planners. Being an apprentice is another option. Certification is usually another joke. Most wedding planners I know are self-taught and have a lot of experience.

You really have to hustle. A good idea might be to offer to do some friend's weddings for free to get started.

It appears there are several schools that offer certifications. I did a quick Yahoo search on "wedding planner certification", and came up with several offerings.

www.acpwc.com is the site for the Association of Certified Professional Wedding Consultants. My guess is that their site is a good place to start.
