find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
and take multivitamin and flax or omega oil(if you dont eat enough healthy fats) with your breakfast.

Exercise more is the easiest and healthiest way. It's good that you are starting early so you have a long time to lose it. Exercise for about 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week and try to eat as healthily as you can. If you're one of those girls who think they're fat when they're not then it will be harder to lose any weight than if you are actually overweight to begin with (sorry don't mean to be rude, just telling it how it is) :D
Yeah that's basically it, there is no 'secret' to weight loss, you just need to exercise more and eat more healthily! Don't weigh yourself all the time either, that will just disappoint you. Weight will not just 'drop off' unless you are really overweight, you have to wait for it. Weigh yourself after 2 weeks, I'd say and then see how much weight you have lost!
Also, once you have lost the weight, you can't just start eating loads of junk otherwise the weight will just go back on. You don't necessarily have to restrict calories, just eat more healthily and the weight loss will come naturally! Good luck!
Oh and also I forgot to say, drink LOTS of water! This is a must! I used to HATE water but got used to drinking it, if you keep a water filter in the fridge, water tastes nicer when it is chilled! I wouldn't drink coffee or tea if you are exercising to lose weight because they dehydrate you. Usually you should drink 8 glasses of water a day but if you are exercising you should drink a few more, so you stay hydrated. Your body needs water to fuel the metabolism so fat burning will work at it's maximum potential. And when you are exercising, don't be lazy, work your hardest for the best results, you should definitely be working up a sweat!
