God would be terribly unloving if He simply punished people without telling them in advance what His rules were and what would happen if they disobeyed. A better question would be why would God tolerate a person who has the impudence to question his goodness?

In other words; you are not going to believe in God because you believe he threatens people. So you choose to not believe in him.

But then he would have to exist wouldn't he?
Just put your head in the sand and do not "tolerate" him.

it is amazing that people like you do not realize that he is GOD - he does what he wants. It is afterall his party - you try to make a god of yourself by actually believing that you somehow creat your own afterlife. God is God - thats it - you are free to not believe and whine about how unfair and threatening he is but he is still Lord of all Lords

I find it bizarre that Christians refuse to see the threats their deity makes: "Believe/love/worship me or burn forever and ever!" is about as threatening as you can get...and that's the basic premise of the Christian faith.

I have never met a father who did not find it necessary to threaten their children from time to time...ie: "if you don't..... I will...."

or, to put it another way... God makes The Rules... play by God's Rules... or you lose.
