It isn't their religion that causes extremists to kill innocent people but certain individuals that use the title of religion to influence groups to promote their individual ideas and causes. Essentially all religions have peace as their foundation but influential members warp the truth to push their own agendas which usually have little to due with true religion.

It's not the religion that says that specifically if we are talking about the same religion then there are various passages in that holy book that can be interpreted by people who want convince oppressed people of their religion what they are being told to do is right and that they will be rewarded for it, which most of the said religion probably think isn't right.

It's never been about "religion", even back in the 12th century.
It's always been about power and control. Saying it is in the name of God, is an excuse to justify any action that is deemed necessary to attain and maintain control over others.
We must be careful about who we are pointing fingers at. The religious right conservatives in the US are currently in power and are perilously close to admitting that they are "intervening" in the Middle East in the name of God. Our "intervention" may not specifically target women and children, but we accept inadvertent killing of innocents.
How much different are we really?

well obviously, these are fanatics that put their own spin on what their base religion really says. Don't paint all members of such a faith with the same brush, recognize that there are reasonable men and women in any group and then there are the sick twisted fanatics, that is as true of Christianity as it is of Islam or Buddhism.

It's not a religion that is telling these people to go out and do these. It is there extreme interpretation of their religion. Just as the Westborough Baptist Church is full of extremist Christians. Every religion has these extremists that interpret their religions in a seemingly sick and twisted way. Don't think it is the religion itself.

Catholic Christians in the Crusades not only killed Muslim women and children, they ate them.
And, by the way, Catholic Crusaders not only killed Muslims, they killed Orthodox Christians, too (in a sack of Constantinople).
And Orthodox Christians have done their share of massacring Muslims, as well ... in modern times, no less ... as in Srebrenica, 1995
And of course when Protestants came on the scene, they killed one another and Catholics, too ... again, continuing to our own "modern" times ... Northern Ireland's already been mentioned.
But perhaps some will argue people should do away with religion and live with the kind of respect for human life they had in, say ... Stalin's regime?
Barbaric people don't do barbaric things because of their religion. Barbaric people do barbaric things because they're barbaric.

You cannot apply logic to religion. Their religion preaches this and those who believe in it accept it. As sad as that makes the rest of us, there is little we can say that will unconvince them. All we can do is let them know that this behavior will not be tolerated and will be fought at every turn and hope that time and growth will eliminate it.

Are you talking about the religion of the leader who ordered all children of Jesus' age killed? All religions seem to be much the same when they want to get their own way.
The Crusades, the Irish Christians that killed so many kids.
