my surround sound receiver (Onkyo HT-R500) has been working for 3 years about now and all of a sudden the back right speaker (right surround speaker) wont work anymore. I reconnected the speaker wires for that speaker and it didn't do anything.

So does this sound like an internal hardware malfunction? I really dont think i blew the speaker because the back surround ones dont get entirely too loud.

Any ideas? Im all out.

Thanks in advance.

Try using a different speaker that you know works with wire you know is good on that channel. If you still have no output, check to make sure no one has turned down that output in the receiver's menu. If no one has, you do have service problem.

Those home theater in a box are mainly designed for you to watch a movie with surround sound on the built in DVD or Blu Ray disc player. They are not flexible for adding anything to them or for up grading. When one item fails in the unit, you have to replace the whole system. By using the Red and White RCA jack, which is only a left and right audio signal you are not going to get surround sound. You need to use an optical audio cable from your game console to have surround sound. If you system does not have an optical audio input, then you are not going to get surround sound. Hope this will help you out.

swap it with the back left speaker- either just speakers or at the wiring terminal on the back of the set: if the back RIGHT now works, you have either a bad speaker [now on back left] or bad wiring to back right [or both]. if you traded just speakers and back right now works, you have a blown speaker.
Basically, you are trying to move the problem- if you do so, the part you are moving IS the problem.
