budget vacation plan?

Hi -
My girlfriend and I are planning a week long vacation, but our budget is limited only to $1200 -$1600 ($600 a person/$800 a person max. ). Ideally we would love to travel outside of US, but not sure where we can go on our limited budget, wondering if anyone have suggestions on where we might find a vacation spot that fits our current budget? We are currently located in the east coast.

Based on your budget, it sounds like flying anywhere is out of the question. Also, unless you can get a real good deal, a nice hotel is likely out too. Your best bet might be finding out what there is to do cheaply or for free within 3-4 hours of you and take day trips to those locations. Estimate the gas costs and any tolls you are likely to encounter. Other than that, the money you have is available. You might save some to stay in a nice hotel for a romantic evening out on lhe last night.

Many of us don't always travel to the places we are near to. We seem to think we have to travel a long way to have a nice trip. Later we are saying, you know, I've never been to that - whatever it is - just 2 hours from here. Look around. I bet you can have a very nice time on the bucks you have.
