i.e. do you believe tarot readings are for entertainment only or you believe the tarot can actually give you intuitive answers and accurate information? Any experiences? Thanks.

I think that tarot cards can be very helpful for meditation purposes to help you find out things about yourself that you may not have realized and quite frankly that your friends would probably not tell you if they did notice them.
With that said, I also recommend that your need be real because I do believe that the urgency of wanting to know something somehow helps in the process to discover what is in your, what I call ,"blind spot". Doing some reading on the Tarot cards would probably do alot of good in order to help you see the various interpretations for each card.
In my personal experiences with various card decks, and books, I have found that the cards have become extremely valuable to me as a tool. They help me focus on whatever it is that is bothering me. Images are particularly helpful for me and so tarot cards are really invaluable to me at this point in my journey.
I do think that you should know what you are looking for whether you are doing your own readings, researching the cards, or getting a reading. I think that the cards and /or readings should be used as a reference tool whereby you are presented with things or points to consider in your thought process about the problem or issue that concerns you. If you are looking for answers, the best answers always come from deep inside of you, for your own life. So, using the cards or a reader can do the same thing and that is help you to see the situation from yet another angle, which should help to affirm your own gut feelings or knowledge of the situation and help you to uncover your true opinion in the matter and thereby choose the solution or strategy that suits you the best.
I read every tarot book that I can find at the library, at the bookstores and online. I also am constantly studying various decks and the authors opinions and interpretations. I started studying or rather researching the Tarot seven years ago. During that time I have lost track of the time -if it were not for the habit of writing the date that I acquired each book in my library on the subject, then I would not have known how long it has been. I am what I would call an intuitive and have been gifted all of my life from childhood, always having vivid dreams and visions that came true, alot of times just as I saw them, sometimes they were hours before , sometimes the dreams would be days, weeks, months and even years before. When I started reading about the Tarot I did not want to know how they worked because I came from a very deep Christian educational background. But as I experienced more things in my life, I decided to look at the Tarot more closely and that was in 2003. I do believe that the Tarot is a tool that can be helpful to anyone who actually can relate to them. I hope that my response is helpful to you.
Peace from Purevu

BEWARE!

These are the original Egyptian Tarot cards from which so many other Tarot decks derived.

http://www.vopus.org/en/content/view/345/132/

They are sacred and we are not allowed to ask any unserious question(like "how will be the weather tomorrow", "am I beautiful or not", yes-no questions, etc.); the question must be serious(for example "why don't I get a job yet?", "what can I do to solve my family problem?","why I still can't find my soulmate",etc.). Also they must be sanctified before use, not letting others touch them(they'll lose accuracy since they will be charged with your energy), make some prayers before asking the Tarot, asking our Inner Father(the Divine within us to answer our question through the cards- the cards don't give an answer on their own, it's our inner Being that gives the answer through them), we must cense them before asking, sitting in a protective circle and so on.

Tarot cards are very attacked by Demons that is why we need to be careful not to use Tarot cards that you can find at any store, that are just derived from the originals and need to perform some protection stuff before using them. Cards being attacked by Demons=> attacking us too, our minds of course(I remember 2 dreams where one made incantations to my mind and I had to burn the cards).

I am an in betweener when it comes to tarot reading, i have done it in the past and came to terms that the cards for me was a read off of "omes" or my "ora". Some of the cards would really be on target with present feelings i was having, but when it came to questions about my near future it was off! The cards are a fun coincident, the cards to me are kinda just a refelection of how your feeling at the moment, but cannot be used to determine "what will happen next!".

Good luck with it, if you try it out just dont go too far with it....

I recognize that Tarot cards are nothing more than little pieces of card stock with pretty pictures on them that a bunch of people agree have certain meanings.

However, they can be useful as a way of intentionally shifting your view point of a situation, to bring you out of your pre-conceived notions, to consider other possible notions.

They're totally bunk as a divinitory item. All the same, they're still useful.

Tarot has been real good at explaining how things are, and how they got there, but the future they predict frequently doesn't come true because we can change our destiny with a simple change of heart.

So yes they work, but better for looking into the past.

I read tarot cards and they give eerily accurate answers and insights...

there just cards that tell your past, present, and future life.
if you ask me, i think that they are just plain old fun, and a coinsidense at the same time.

my mother is obsessed with tarot and has done many readings on me, and i'm fine.

Good entertainment. But you kinda see what you want to see, so you could theoretically use them as a tool to figure out the real roots of your impulses - cheaper than therapy, but not as effective.
