Saw this morning on Jayski.com that Nascar is thinking about making the Daytona 500 the last race of the season in 2008 and making the race at Homestead the first. What do you think? To me it is not the same.

The concept is valid since the Daytona 500 is the sports Super Bowl. The problem is that the final race of the season is only dramatic for a handful of drivers...usually two or three drivers. Can you imagine watching the Daytona 500 with the only interest being the two or three drivers that have a shot at winning the championship? On the other hand, by having the greatest race of the season first, every driver is part of the drama. Just making the race is a drama. Weeks of testing and of course the Shootout and the qualifying races. Daytona should remain the first race!

In the days that NASCAR raced at Riverside this was the first race of the season.
When the race way at Riverside closed NASCAR was made the first race of the year.So if the race from Daytona the last event then this would end the chase in a very intresting way,as long as the format would stay the same.
But I hope they don't.

NOT A GOOD IDEA!! Having the Daytona 500 as the last race will ruin many peoples positions. Daytona is a hard race to qualify well in and to finish in, so they are better off sticking to an easier more laid back race like Homestead where people tend to finish the race. Thats my opinon atleast.

Can you include a link to this please?

I've seached the site and have read nothing on it. I hope this will not happen, Screw the SUPERBOWL. This is not football, or baseball.. Or Basketball.. It's NASCAR. Why should we conform to be "like the rest of the sports?" It's past time history to have the Daytona 500 as the first race of the year, and there is NOTHING wrong with it. Stop wanting to change everything!

You can't end the season with the 500, the last race under the chase format can't end at a restictor plate race. It's a dumb idea, sure Homestead was a garbage track 4 years ago but the racing's gotten alot better there in the last couple years.

i kinda like the idea because the daytona 500 at the first of the year is always a big event imagine the last race with 6 drivers in contention to win the championship. what a wild race that would be. everytime there would be a wreck people would be nervous to see if their driver was in the wreck. more people would watch

Hey, the France family has already screwed up NASCAR. Lucky dog, Car of Tomorrow, Politically correct. It's turned into grandma's knitting club. What's one more thing? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
