I don't think atheism itself is depressing. But I have noticed that many atheists are very unhappy.

I guess their problem lies in the fact that when things are bad and they are having a hard time, atheists have nothing to hold on to except for themselves. They have to look at themselves and find a way to make things better.

A religious person on the other hand, turns to prayer and god. Their faith in a higher power helps them keep hope and have more faith in their future.

Basically, religious people are more inclined towards optimism. After all, their religions preach that everything will work out well in the end. Optimism is a happy state of mind.

Atheism isn't depressing. But it does make it harder to be happy.

probably because they don't have Jesus to guide them around...I don't believe atheism is depressing. I have friends who are atheist and they are outgoing, friendly, and fun. That doesn't sound depressed at all. I just think for some people like me and others who believe in Jesus Christ find it sad, but not depressing. Some people just respect there space like I do. I hate it when people preach in airports and everything.

I'm not depressed that there isn't some tyrannical creator figure watching me every second of the day and writing down every "mistake" I make only to hold it against me after I die.

Hmmm. Actually, I think I read a study somewhere that declares just the opposite. That both strongly religious believers and strong atheists are LESS depressed.

It comes from vomit. Most people who say that just eat up and regurgitate what they are told from their Shepherd, child molesting priests or anyone with an IQ 1 point above their own.

I do not think so. It is not my choice, but I don't think it is depressing. I prefer life with Jesus once I have got my faith, but I think it can be quite fun to be atheist too.
