Hmmmm..... sounds like you are doubting whether or not it IS right.... Of course you probably wouldn't be posting here if you weren't a bit confused?? Of course it's wrong and I think you're aware of that.... Using cocaine or heroin would also help you temporarily "forget" or calm your fears/pain but that wouldn't make it right or the smart thing to do... People self-medicate themselves in many ways... overeating, undereating, drugs, alcohol, addiction to sex, cutting, etc.... First you have to respect your body more than this... you have one body to last you a lifetime, why scar it up and abuse the heck out of if??? No one is going to take care of your body for you... You have to look out for Number One so-to-speak... You are probably blessed with a healthy, working body so try to be appreciative of that and think of the others not so lucky... the kids in the burn units and the hospitals, or people who have lost lives or limbs in accidents or fighting for our country... be grateful for what you have been given and use it to your advantage, don't destroy it, OK??? You need to seek some counsel from someone who specializes in this and look around for one that suits you... not just the first one you happen upon... You may need some type of light antidepressant just on a temporary basis until you can work through this.. it worked miraculously for me... not for cutting but for other "problems".... Take care and keep us posted...

Whether or not it is wrong doesnt really matter. Cutting will only help you temporarily, and as the numbness wears off, you need to do it again. It is a addiction, a horrible one. It is not a healthy way to deal with your emotional issues, even though it seems like a quick cure. Heck, i enjoy the fact that i dont need to feel any emotion for a day or 2. But according to the majority of people (the other 97% of americans who don't cut) we are messed up in the head and need psychological help, even though we are just trying to make ourselves feel better. Some people will never understand...

I know what you're saying, but my answer is yes, it really is wrong. You are injuring yourself, and that is not a good thing.
It helps you because (you think) it takes away some of the mental or emotional pain by replacing it a physical pain that is under your own control. But obviously man, you're not taking away any pain, you're only adding more.
What you need to do is get outside of yourself. You need to take care of yourself physically - your diet and exercise are things you should always be working to get better, because we all can always improve there - all of us. Physical health is a harbinger to mental health, and that's where you are lacking, dude, sorry to say.
Emotionally you need to try to forget yourself and serve to help people who are worse off than you. When you find some people who you can serve, feel compassion for, you'll feel the rush of reward by succeeding from the very same hands that were cutting yourself a while ago. And there is no pain this time.
You aren't doomed to destruction. Get out there and do some good, and feel the rush that accompanies service. I am pulling for you bro - I know it's tough, but I know there's a way out.
In a nutshell - cutting is wrong. It hurts you, and does not help - only makes you numb to future pain and making suicide, the ultimate evil, an easier thought until you consider that.

allot of people cut, is it OK? Most people i help take care of use it as form of redirection. This is so they stop feeling pain or bad memories. So no its not a good thing I have been in this Field for about 12 yrs now. We always ask them to come talk be fore cutting, So maybe you need to go and talk to someone. It does not mean you are crazy you just may need some help to get past some thing. Good luck

ok i dont really think cutting is wrong becasue i used to do it my self so i would be hypercritical if i said it was wrong BUT it is a sign of you wanting and NEEDING help.....yes i understand it really does cause alot of problems with hiding scars and the cuts but it is a release for you at the moment and you should aim in the NEAR future as in the next couple of days or this week to get some help (councelling) from your doctor.
Your life cannot be ruled but cuttingn hiding and lies and it can lead to worse things though....so please be careful.
Take care, please get some help.....it was the best thing i ever did and now im a changed person...people can and do stop self harming. so can you!
Take care

no it doesn't help. well for the moment it does but one day u'll get over the problem but the scar will stay to haunt u. and u don't really need that. because it will bring back all the bad memories, and u don't need that. so try something else to do that takes off ur mind of ur problems. don't sulk on the hurt, fix the problem. think about it rationally and find the positive in it.
plus i'm sure u can always find support from others if u actually look, world isn't as dark as it seems.

Well i really don't think hearting your self will help...I think people that do such things it's because they punish themselves...And most of the time they have no reason to believe that some bad thinks happen because of them...They constantly feel guilty and then cut themselves but that makes them feel even worse...
I hope with all this good answers from other users you will have no doubt that is wrong and catastrophic and undeniably not help full...

It only helps you in the short term. Then you get upset, embarrassed and ashamed when you think about it, which is a direct result of doing it. Long term, it's an addictive, destructive behaviour that leaves both emotional and physical scars. It's not 'wrong' to do it but it isn't healthy and has to stop.

i'm a improving cutter, and it did 'help' me on the time with my subjects, in spite of the undeniable fact that it in no way is powerful interior the tip. in case you do no longer think of slicing is even relieving your stress then why are you doing it interior the 1st place? yet to the element, slicing facilitates for a rapid time, in spite of the undeniable fact that it in simple terms finally ends up leaving extra advantageous emotional scars than you had interior the 1st place. damaging habit is between the ordinary the thank you to a spiral of self abuse, melancholy, and from time to time like me, tries at suicide. this is to no longer point out the actual scars which you will ought to describe to your companions, your infants, your grandkids, your employers.. for something of your existence. and that's a annoying element to do. So earlier you decrease next time, in simple terms think of. Do i pick this? How am I going to experience the next day morning whilst i think of roughly what I easily have completed with a sparkling head? tell somebody you have confidence the way you experience. Taking the 1st step is often the toughest. you're able to do it. reliable success :)

Its not wrong as in how dare you its just not nice it leaves you with scars and is addicting so whenever your frustrated or upset or just down you associate it with nice feelings and it becomes your only comping mechanism it also gets dangerous as at time of anger you could be violent and not now how serious the damage you have done to yourself is
