our four fathers basically said that the people makes decisions
and the government today doesn't let us make any decisions
its all their choices
to every police officer its whatever they saw or heard that people are arrested for and not for the truth of wat really happened

so my question is why are we controlled by the government?
and why don't the people have any say in any major matters in the U.S.?

Govts make the hard decisions that us mere mortals cant or wont make.........they cannot stay in power by pleasing everyone so they concentrate on redistributing money. Governments dont earn anything for the country, their job is to design systems that enable large fast growth corporations to profit as much as possible, and to hell with what the little people want. If they can legalize poisons like aspartame theyll do it coz the sugar importers dont mave to spend so much importing sugar, they can cut their import costs in half and make up the shortfall with poisonous chemicals like aspartame...........its all about money and you will find these kinds of rip off deals going on constantly day in a nd day out all over america everyday. All over the world for that matter. Lately the in thing is oil and reconstruction contracts after a country has started war with itself. (ahem).......its criminal to the max, the only thing thats been forgotten is that those basterds work for you!!! theyre getting a bit big for their boots these days. The time is coming when some short sharp shocks are in order, I know about these things and I cant wait to see it start.

Let me tell you my thoughts on your question. After thinking on it for a minute, I feel that the answer to this question is this:

We are controlled by our government because WE as the American Public (as a whole) do not do our duty and guide the government as we should. It has become this huge monstrosity and has gained so much momentum that each individual doesn't think that what they do will matter ~

therefore they DO NOTHING. Oh, yes - some get out an vote every 4 years, some even vote in their local elections, but the majority of the people do not communicate with their elected officials. Some even decide that if issues don't affect them directly - there is no reason to get involved.

This is why it is perceived that the government controls what we do without listening to our voices. We don't tell it otherwise.

Now, for those of you who wish to reply that I do vote every time I can, I do correspond with my congressmen ~ that is great, but now I charge you to get your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and communities to do the same. Without a full voice - from all Americans - nothing will happen. And just remember, once something is set into motion and begins to run itself - it is going to be hard to change so don't wait until our country is in ruins before you decided to jump in and help. HELP NOW, MAKE A DIFFERENCE NOW.

Write your representatives, vote in ALL elections, research your candidates (don't just vote along a party line). Find out what the candidate really stands for. If you've been a life long democrat/ republican/independent - whatever - make sure that your candidate (regardless of party) stands for what you believe in. What will make this country stronger. We have to band together if we want to leave a stronger Amercia for our children.

The United States follows a republic form of government. By a republic we mean that we select (elect) our representatives and these representatives run the government for us. It is a representative government. This is what the constitution is all about. It was never intended to be strictly democratic.. If it was strictly democratic then we wouldn't need a congress. Rather, whenever there was an issue we would just take a vote and the majority would always have their way.

It is because big money buys votes and if the votes are not forthcoming, they buy people to "work it out" so that it turns to their advantage. Capitalism is a good idea except it can and has gone too far. We are now at a point where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and since the poor can't afford to do anything about it, it will just get worse. But anyone who would like to do something about it, rich or poor, should speak up in every forum possible, the internet, the street, schools, etc., like Michael Moore in his documentary on healthcare in this country,. Go see "sicko" quite an eye-opener!

People do have a say in this country. We elect the "nurds" who keep voting for legistlation that supports funding for programs that support dead beats who don't want to make any decisions, just pick up their stipend. Thats exactly how you suppress people, take away their desire to lead and make decisions for themselves. Once they get use to doing nothing for something, they sit back and let those in power make all the decisions for them. Why do you think early colonies denied education to the slaves? They don't want educated people who tell them how to do their jobs. Thus, they support socialized agenda's that keep the middle class working, paying taxes, so that the lower class can continue to sip the milk. The lower class then keeps subsidizing the Power Mongers with their vote. Been this way for years and until the recent threats by middle class on the immigration movement, their hasn't been enough "ground swell" from the tax payers to justify any real "listening ears" on behalf of the political elite.

Thomas B - in order for his comments to be seditious, they are required by definition to incite rebellion. They don't do that so try to stay away from the big words that you don't understand. Also, (and I'm definitely no Hillary supporter) Hitler was a Fascist - that's from the RIGHT WING of the political spectrum. Again you have proven that you don't understand what you puke about. Conservatism and Liberalism are not the same thing - you shouldn't use try to insult liberals by twisting their name with one of the most infamous conservatives of all time. Get an education man!

Because most people -- especially Democrats -- love being told what to do. They don't WANT to accept any responsibility. The more the government can do, the better they like it. Everything that happens in their life HAS to be the fault of someone else ... and HAS to be solved by the government. A program for this, a program for that -- oh, that sounds grand, except that with every program we lose a little, don't we?

Which four (4) fathers are you referring to?

Oh wait maybe you meant forefathers?

Quite honestly you don't seem to be very bright and the government only tries to control those who are incapable of controlling themselves. If you are having run ins with police on a regular basis maybe its time for a lifestyle change.

That is a very difficult question to answer completely in this forum. I suggest you study Ancient History, European and American History, Sociology, Economics, Behavioral Sciences, and Philosophy. Remember, "Freedom" is a fallacy. It's one of the greatest lies ever told. It truly only existed at one or two points in our history. If you don't want to study that hard take the easy way and try reading The Grapes of Wrath.

The US is a Constitutional Republic. This means we elect representatives to Congress, specifically the House of Representatives.
I will agree that the government has overstepped its Constitutional limits in many facets of our lives. In order to turn this around I think you should consider Ron Paul as our next president.
