On the old VW Beettle, there is a VIN on the pan under the back seat. Is there one on the body too?

on later (70's ) the Vin was on a metal plate behind the windshield on the drivers side, in the trunk area down by the hood latch (on a metal plate), on another plate on the inside of the door sill, stamped in the middle of the access hole for the center under the rear seat , and also I think it was stamped on the frame under one of the wheel wells.

It should be on the inside of the drivers side door. When you open the door there should be a metal piece attached there with info. You could also check in the lower windshield, where vehicles now have VINs.
