Christians who don't have a grasp of the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith should not get into a debate with JWs. Yet they SHOULD testify as to how God saved them! Nobody can refute a Christian's personal testimony. They might not believe it, but they cannot say it's untrue!
They should endeavour to grow in understanding so that one day they could reach out to JWs in love. The whole sentence you partially quoted is significant: "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear, having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed."
This puts the shoe on the other foot. Not many people seem to realise the extent of JW "Christian bashing", and how much they revile those of other faiths. (They keep the lid on it in public, but their literature is full of denunciations.) JWs are rendered speechless at the good conduct of Christians who are not JWs. This contradicts what they have been told to believe about non-JWs who profess faith. So it's important for Christians to speak the truth in love to JWs, to pray for them, and to help them practically whenever they can.

Ditto Rez. Well mentioned. It is whatever all of us have the inclination to do, at a few degree or an extra, for one intent or an extra. Christians aren't exempt from being human. The approach a lot of them excuse their possess flaws is disgusting, even though. As you already know, Steph, I am going by way of a intricate challenge at dwelling. I have a few very supportive individuals, Christian and atheist, in my existence. I have others who in a single breath ask for prayers for a demise youngster, then within the subsequent turn out to be my pass judgement on and jury. It is whatever to behold.

It would seem that a study of the bible itself would tend to lead a sincere person to the truth more readily than a study of some anti-Witness publication.
(1 Timothy 6:2-5) Keep on teaching these things and giving these exhortations. 3 If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, 4 he is puffed up with pride, not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions, 5 violent disputes about trifles on the part of men corrupted in mind and despoiled of the truth
Even if it is merely to prepare for the regular visits and bible-based discussions of true Christian preachers (such as Jehovah's Witnesses), perhaps some good can come from the bible study of a sincere householder.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.

Jesus must lead each person on a case to case basis. Only Christ knows if the soil is ready to have a seed planted. If we assume to quickly that we should speak to everyone, then we might cause more harm than good. We must follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. If Christ asks us to testify, we should testify.

You are right. We should do better than.."No thank you. I'm not interested." That doesn't teach them anything or show them the love that lives with in us for them. If we really want to help people see the light then we need point to the light.
Thank you for this check of my spirit.

you need to follow your own path in that situation. I'm Catholic and I try very hard to let those of other beliefs know that I have my own beliefs and I'm not interested in moving on from that. Most of the time they get the message and if not then I give my apologies and close the door. That takes care of it. I do try not to be rude, sometimes it cant be helped.

Ask them if they have a Bible with them and once they get it out - ask them to explain Revelations 7:9
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

the thing is, you will not change someone's mind unless they are already questioning their faith. With the J.W.'s there is no way you will change them. They are relentless.
how I got rid of one, though was to pull out MY Bible and say, "can you show me that in here? I can't find it." then I categorically questioned every "error" i could find starting in Genesis. email me and I will tell you what my questions were.
In her Bible there were the words that Adam had "intercourse" with Eve. I just looked at her. the very next words out of my mouth were (no kidding) "if you read that to my children i swear to you i will whip your ***. you don't talk like that in front of children. is that why you are all so warped?" as soon as I caught myself I began my questions again.
soon, she could not answer them and so she stopped coming over.

As a non-Christian, i do not recognize a Christian's "higher calling."
As a former Christian, i already know what Christian hope is about, and have no further interest in that dillusion. I hope for real things, not unsubstatiated fantasies.
So, "I'm not interested, thank you" it is.
