Mucus in stools is generally not a serious symptom. If you've been constipated or have diarrrhea, your stools may temporarily contain more mucus.

If you are seeing blood (either fresh red; coffee-ground; or tarry) in your stool, you may want to consult a physician. Fresh red blood may indicate rectal bleeding, but the other types may indicate intestinal bleeding.

Mucoid stools can be caused by inflammatory bowel syndromes (like Crohn's Disease--white mucus) or by malabsorptive conditions (such as celiac disease or lactose intolerance).

If the mucus in your stool has persisted for several weeks, you may wish to consult a physician. If it has been accompanied by blood (as in the above signs) or abdominal discomfort, a physician may need to evaluate, diagnose, and treat you.

There are a few possibilities...but they do all tend to arise from the colon. Can be something as benign as irritable bowel to as serious as Crohn's or cancer.

If you have this happening, especially for longer than a week...and have pain associated or see blood...see your doctor, cause then that is a sign that a serious process is going on.

Could be one of many problems..if you've had a sinus infection or cold, it could show up in fecies..It could be IBS..Irritable Bowel Syndrome or UC..Ulcerative Colitis. If it doesn't clear up on it's own or has been going on for a while already, you need to see a doctor. A regular MD would be the kind of Dr. to see first. If he thinks it's a problem a Gastroenterologist needs to handle, he will refer you to one. Hope this helps you. <<>>

this is a normal varient. the mucus you see is just that, mucus, and sometimes the lining of the intestine peels off. this is normal unless you see it daily or there is a great deal of blood. sometimes after being consipated this will happen. good luck and please see a doc if it continues;)michele

That is fat being eliminated in your feces. It comes from the food you eat and your body does not use. This happens with Malabsorbtion syndrome.
