In 2005 i bought a brand new car. My dad signed and i co-signed because i was only 18 at the time. I have been on his car insurance ever since then and i pay for the car every single month. About 2 months ago me and my dad got into ahorrible fight and I took myself off of his car insurance policy and got my own. I do not live with him, i like with my fiancee. I will be married on saturday, then me and my husband will have our own car insurance together. Well my dad called me and left a threatening message saying i need to trade my car in and get a new one that is mine and only mine, because he owns that car and he doesnt want me having it! Is there anything i can do about this? Can i get it transferred into my name without him? Thank you very much!!

You and your dad are both co owners. You both own the car, seems like you need each other in that respect at least if not others.

For starters, make amends with your dad. You'll regret it later if you don't. Second, get a new loan in your name only. Just tell the lender that you are the one who has been making the payments and that you want to build your own credit now.
Good luck

You will need to get a loan in your own name and use it to pay off the loan you have with your dad. You can then retitle the car in just your name.

You would need to refinance the vehicle into your name only. He still has rights to the car if his name is on the loan.

sorry hun,if you are the co-signer,the title is in your fathers name.put the car in his driveway and walk away.you have not put all that much into the vehicle, let him have it.in time you will be able to get over it. be a bigger person than he is.it is not worth making a lot of noise over a car.thank him and walk.good luck, you will be able to get a car on your own soon.

if you have made all the payments on the car then legally it is yours. if your dad put the down payment on it and you have made the payments then part of it is his. you can get the car in your name only but will have to take out another loan . if your dad is refusing to work with you sounds like you will have to get all your receipts and get an attorney.
