Nicotine's mood-altering effects are different by report. First causing a release of glucose from the liver and epinephrine (adrenaline) from the adrenal medulla, it causes stimulation. Subjectively, users report feelings of relaxation, calmness, and alertness. It is even reported to produce a mildly euphoric state. By reducing the appetite and raising the metabolism, some smokers may lose weight as a consequence. It also allows the mouth to be stimulated without food and the taste of tobacco smoke may curb the appetite.
When a cigarette is smoked, nicotine-rich blood passes from the lungs to the brain within seven seconds and immediately stimulates the release of many chemical messengers including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, epinephrine, vasopressin, arginine, dopamine, and beta-endorphin. This results in enhanced pleasure, decreased anxiety, and a state of alert relaxation. Nicotine enhances concentration, learning, and memory due to the increase of acetylcholine. It also enhances alertness due to the increases of acetylcholine and norepinephrine. Arousal is increased by the increase of norepinephrine. Pain is reduced by the increases of acetylcoholine and beta-endorphin. Anxiety is reduced by the increase of beta-endorphin. The effects of nicotine last from five minutes to two hours. Most people who use nicotine do so several times a day (the average smoker smokes about 20 cigarettes in a 24-hour period).[citation needed] They do this in an effort to keep the pleasant effects of nicotine throughout the day and to avoid withdrawal. Most cigarettes (in the smoke inhaled) contain 0.1 to 2.8 milligrams of nicotine.

The patch simply induces nicotine into you, which gives you the satisfaction you get if you smoke a cigarette. For all you smoke, the least Mg's patch you can get, over the counter, would be best for you. Lets just call that the smallest dose. If you still are having the craving, then move up to say the middle dose Patch. I wouldn't go any higher than the middle one. And while you are on the patch, don't smoke at the same time. That will cause you problems. I know a man who was on the strongest Patch and smoked as usual, and he almost got pneumonia. I couldn't tell you what they cost, but you can get them at your local Pharmacy without a prescription.. Just call the Pharmacy and ask them about the Patch and its cost. I wish for you sir to be a total success.

Yes that is a potential side effect. It suggests you are probably taking in more nicotine from your gum than you were from your cigarettes! Try a lower dose gum, less pieces, or avoid for about an hour or so before going to sleep.

I had really really vivd dreams when using patches, they were so clear that I could recount everything about them the following day. I would agree that it is because you are a. taking in nicotine while you are sleeping and b. you are taking in more than you used to when you were smoking.

dunno, but this happened me and my partner with the patches, i think it is because you are not used to nicotine entering your body when you are sleeping. Like the urban legand that if someone is sleeping and you put there fingers in a glass of water they pee them selves !!!! LOL never tried it but made me laugh !!
