is oatmeal good for you? What are its benifits? What if i eat 1 cup of oatmeal with 1/4 cup of 2% fat free milk, and splenda each day for breakfast? Is this a good idea?

Oatmeal is a great filling and healthy food. The solobul fiber is filling, and its rich in essential vitamins that many people lack. Its also a whole grain. Here's an article on some of the benifits.

Your breakfast sounds great, but add some fruit to it. Slice in some bananas for potassium perhaps? And I just have to say this because I'm nitpicky, 2% milk is reduced fat, not fat free.

Happy breakfast! :)

Well, in a nutshell, oatmeal has protein and whole grains. I avoid instant oatmeal because it's loaded with sugar and other stuff. Instead, I sweeten mine with either brown sugar, some Splenda or Stevia or pure maple syurp (the real maple, not the fake maple flavored high fructose corn syrup stuff). Besides, it only takes me about five or so minutes to cook it on the stove. I put the oats in the water and on the burner. I let it boil and turn it down util it's heated. Then I add the syrup, sweeter and cinnamon. Plop it into my bowl and it's ready.

I also find oatmeal to be more filling as well. Also, I used to get it at the health food store, organic bulk, for $.99 a pound, which is much cheaper than even the store brand of the regular stuff.

The Kellogg's Smart Start cereal ads, in the fine print, say that a diet with solulable fiber like oatmeal and potassium are good for the heart. At $4 a box and several listings of corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup (and artificial flavorings and colors, etc.), it just doesn't sound appealing to me. If what they say is true, then I'm much better off with a bowl of oatmeal and a banana. Cheaper and healthier. (I think Kellogg's got their information from the American Heart Association; The logo is on the box.)

Sounds pretty much like one of my favorite breakfast options. I have it either with a banana, strawberries or blueberries for extra flavor. Sometimes you don't even need the Splenda.
Oatmeal is rich in fiber and vitamins, the berries add antioxidants. Great breakfast!

I wouldn't use the splenda, and I would use 1% milk.
