do you know how often this problem comes up.......???
ALL THE TIME if you want I am starting a series for this type of problem on Tuesday on my Hair Blog for all those that want to professionally color their hair AT HOME. In other words I am going to give up the secrets of a professional hair colorist so hopefully it will help you prevent having this problem you just had.
Now that you have put a dark color on top of a failed 'bleached' job, the hair will act like a sponge and soak up that dark color very heartily ...
BTW: The only problem is you did not use a high enough peroxide and/or leave it on long enough, if you would have done those two things it would have gotten as light as you needed it ....{IF IN FACT IT WAS BLEACH....and not high lift blonde?!}....
It also depends on your "virgin" hair color....?? If you are a level 2-3 Very Dark Brown to Black then you might have needed to have to apply it twice also.
Those are the 3 factors that would have made it work correctly.
The very first post for the series on home hair color will explain it to you. I am tired of hearing of all the poor people that end up with the exact same problem you had, its sad for me. If you want help before that you are welcome to email me....
killerstrands@gmail.com
The color will eventually wash through and yes the blonde will pop back through....depending on what you want...??? you can use a cheap crappy shampoo( one with SLS in it ) if you want the color to wash out.....or buy a shampoo withOUT SLS or ALS Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or sister Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate in it.... if you want the color to stay in....
As far as highlights? Unless you have super strong hair which some do.... that is doing a lot to your hair in a very short time.... treat your hair right, its the only head of hair you have....if you do too much to it. . . you can damage it permanently as you can see by all the posts on this site...
If you really want highlights I would go to a stylist and hopefully they will give you a realistic consultation....and tell you whether your hair can take it or not.
Deep-overnight condition your hair tonight, and once a week every week. That will honestly help it, daily conditioning does nothing - overnight is what works.

The brown will probably fade over time, but it should probably be fine. You can get shampoos that help the color last. I would get some of that to help keep the color strong.
It sounds like your hair had gone through a beating lately. I would hold off on color treating it anymore right now. If you do too much at once, you could seriously damage your hair, even cause it to fall out.
Wait a couple of month and then try doing more.

Yep the other colour will show through your hair soon enough, so best solution is to go to a salon and get it done professionally, it will be worth it! Try getting the "mesh" it's like a mixture of 3 colours, say brown, blonde, & maybe a lighter blonde, it looks really nice when done!
Good Luck!

Well naturally yes, the brown will fade and the orange/blonde will appear back through. You need to pay the money to go to a salon and have your hair stripped and then re-colored.

try peroxide. it is the old-school solution to stripping your hair of it's color and making it bleach blonde. if you want to keep your brown hair but just want to add highlights- then just get it done at a salon. it's better to be safe than sorry.

It sounds like you ae trying to color your hair at home. If you can't afford a regular salon, go to your local Beauy College.
The prices are low, the cost of all supplies is included, and the students are supervised at all times. If they do make a mistake, they will correct it at no extra charge. You will end up spending more trying to color your hair yourself.
